I was surprised by the Rossetti poem as well, but when I went looking around for more info on her, I came across a book called Sing-Song: A Nursery Rhyme Book. There's a recent reproduction with the original Victorian illustrations for sale, and I'm going to buy it. One reviewer said it is typically V. with some morbid ones, but still thought it worth buying.
