I like spring, but it is too young. I like summer, but it is too proud. So I like best of all autumn, because its tone is mellower, its colours are richer, and it is tinged with a little sorrow. Its golden richness speaks not of the innocence of spring, nor the power of summer, but of the mellowness and kindly wisdom of approaching age. It knows the limitations of life and its content.

Hm. Good stuff. I like the logs too.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely quote and perfect for how I'm feeling about myself in my sixties and the years ahead.
ReplyDeleteThanks Susie. I was so taken with the color of the rosa rugosa leaves this morning, and the quote seemed just perfect to me. The logs are on the terrace. We have a big supply out in the field, and then Tom drives a couple of tractor loads up and puts them on the terrace. It depends on the weather how long the terrace pile lasts.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Margot. Actually I think I've felt like this most of my life. I was an 'old soul' as a kid and young adult. :<)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quote! It is time to access the supply of firewood....nice picture.
ReplyDeleteI love this quote. It is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteI was just going to say the same thing as Margot! I feel like autumn and I'm not quite in my fifties! Maybe I'm an old soul, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI liked this very much. Maybe because it's where I hope I am.... on my best autumn days.
ReplyDeleteThanks, JoAnn. I so love a wood fire. I can take the whole house being cool, as long as I can go sit by the stove.
ReplyDeleteLisa, thank you.
Les, I'm quite certain of it. I think that is partly why we're so close despite the many years difference in our ages.
Janell, well put!
