Mrs Bale reports on the first snow

Mrs Bale is very happy to announce that we had our first snowfall overnight. Today I couldn't wait to get out and walk! I feel like the rest of the year I just sleep my life away, waiting, waiting for this cold, brisk air. This is the air that makes me feel alive. Though it isn't winter for a couple months, today there is a little taste of it and I'm thrilled. Every season has its wonders, but in winter my heart, "leaps up" as William Wordsworth wrote.

Just a dusting but it brightens up the whole landscape

  1. I just arrived here in Andover, Mass. to visit my daughter -- it is cold!! Great pictures. I haven't seen any snow here, though.

  2. we're not really ready for this, are we? I'm deep into my sweater wardrobe but still have summer things hanging in my closet needlessly. We never got around to putting the snowshoes and the skis away this summer--they are still in the corner of the living room--no need to bother now, I suspect.

  3. Oh Nan! We had a dusting of snow yesterday too! So pretty. So cold . Although I prefer cold and dry to warm and wet, I wasn't quite ready for this!
Lovely pictures from your part of paradise.

  4. I am so glad to hear that you like winter too. I do and don't find too many people around here that like winter, especially snow, like I do. It is fun to see Mrs Bales out and about too. I have missed her this summer. She doesn't get out much during summer does she??

  6. I'm with you -- I love the brisk, chilled air of autumn and beyond. How exciting! I still get giddy over the first snowfall. :) Nan, may I include a link to this post on my blog for the Garden Bloggers First Snowfall Project? I don't believe we've got anyone from New England just yet. (Please check it out...just for fun: http://nancybond.wordpress.com/garden-bloggers-first-snowfall/ )

  7. Lovely photos, Nan. Here in central NY, the ground and trees were covered. I posted a photo on my new blog.

  8. I'm glad you enjoy the cold, snowy weather. Someone should! ;)
I thought we were going to get some of the white stuff earlier this week, but it was only cold. That didn't last. Yesterday we hit 78!
    Great pictures, as usual!

  9. Lovely! My husband and I bought the whole series of As Time Goes by and were sad when we finished, and had no more to watch. We love that show!

  10. Sue, thanks for stopping by and reading an older post! I own the whole series, too, and went through it all over a year's time. I love it so much. There are a whole bunch of Mrs Bale posts, and some on Jean and Lionel, too.
