Quote du jour/Gladys Taber

This is the season for roses, when the ramblers burst into splendor, deep red, ivory, and candy pink.
Gladys Taber, Stillmeadow Sampler

Ramblers is just the right word. We put in a few bushes years ago, and they've certainly rambled. I can't count how many we have now. And they are all blooming. I tend to take closeups of flowers because they have a clarity I can't seem to achieve when I take photos of a larger group, but I'm going to show a couple anyway just to give you an idea of their "splendor."

  4. Karen, is June your month for roses, too?

Heidi, there is a small hill behind the house, and part of it we planted with rosa rugosa and lupines. I took the photo from the bottom of the hill looking up. They aren't really on the corner. Wouldn't it be nice if on blogs we could do that 360º thing you see on some websites?

  5. Lovely roses- the old fashioned varieties like this are my favorites. My grandfathers hillside is full of them.

  7. Thanks, Lizzie. They are old-fashioned, aren't they? And not "fussy." Plant them and enjoy them, period. Who could ask for more.

Thanks, Les. I love them, too.

  8. Hi Nan...thank you for coming by the back porch and leaving your very nice comment!

I got the effect on the flower by using Picasa2 photo editor. It's a free download. The effect I used was the focal black and white. You can move the cursor around and put the color where you want it, the rest will be black and white. I then used another option to give the back ground a soft focus background.

I've used Picasa2 for a couple of years and have had good results.

I'm going to have a look at your blog. Looks great!
