Giveaway!

On my blog anniversary, I wrote that there would be a giveaway at a 'less busy time of the year.' I decided not to wait because I thought it would be fun to offer during the holiday season.

So here's my idea! I would like to give a gift subscription to Bookmarks Magazine.

The only thing is that I cannot afford to offer it to my dear readers from Canada or across the oceans because the cost to the former is $10 more and the cost to the latter goes up $30! But, I have a way around that little problem. If the name drawn is from someone not in the US, then what I'll do is send you my copy when I finish with it. Yes, it will be a month or more late, but I don't think that will matter to the bookish among us.

Because there are six issues in a year's subscription, you have SIX days to leave a comment. On the day of the winter solstice, December 21, I shall draw the winning name. If this giveaway interests you, please leave a comment on any post on any day saying you would like the subscription. If you don't mention the giveaway, I'll assume you either already subscribe or that it doesn't appeal to you.

Again, the dates to leave a comment are December 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20.

  1. What a generous offer! I have never heard of Bookmarks (are you horrified?), but would be interested in being entered so I could check it out. (And if I don't win, I might check it out on my own anyway...)

  2. Well I haven't even come close to reading everything, so I would love a chance to win Bookmarks:)

  3. I would love to be entered into your lovely give away. And, I must say how much I love your header. Is that poor dog waiting for a loved one to come home and let her in or waiting for some one to take her out to play? Either way the snow certainly does appeal to labs doesn't it? There is almost no one that has as much fun in the snow as a lab.

  4. I think this is my first time posting a comment on your blog - I've been reading since November and have added M.M. Kaye's trilogy of books about India to my to-read list thanks to an earlier entry.

Anyway, Bookmarks sounds like a great magazine! I'm interested in this giveaway. Thanks for hosting it!

  5. Hi, Nan, just wanted to let you know that yesterday I was browsing at the bookstore and found that Hazel Holt has a new mystery out -- Any Man's Death. It was released in paperback in the US on Dec. 1st. :0)

  8. Not horrified, Sprite :<)

Book Psmith, I do love their subtitle. :<)

Hip Chick, Not a 'poor dog' at all. This is where she sits and watches as Tom gives the barn animals hay each afternoon or evening. Sadie takes this 'job' most seriously. She is part Lab and part Rotty and we are sure part something that likes to herd animals. :<)

Christy, I love those books. She is an amazing writer.

Thanks, Canadian Chickadee. Now I just have to read all the others first! :<) I love it when older authors continue writing - like Hazel H., P.D. James and Elizabeth Peters.

Thank you, Ernestine, and the same to you in your cozy new home!

    Oh, thank you, Staci!

  14. This give away greatly appeals to me, Nan! You are definitely in the Christmas spirit to be thinking of such a lovely gift, and it's especially nice to ponder gifts which a.) add to one's general knowledge of books and b.) doesn't add to one's general area of the hips. (Too many edible treats for this teacher!)

  20. Dear Nan,
I want to leave a comment, *not* to be entered into your giveaway, but to let you know how much your readers all appreciate you. Although I don't often comment, yours is always the first blog I visit when I have time.
I truly enjoy everything about it and am in a state of continual learning when I come here!
Keep up the wonderful blogging, and receive our gratitude!
from one of your grateful readers, Joanne, who just finished reading Rosamunde Pilcher's Winter Solstice so we are on the same page as we acknowledege the solstice season!

  22. How come you have 21 comments already? I was hoping everyone else would miss this posting and I could be drawn out of a hat of one name for this subscription! I'd be happy to wait - since I stopped working I've not seen any bookish magazines and I miss them.

  23. Of course you are now entered, Carole! And if you win, you'll get my magazines when I'm through. The postage won't be anymore than the cost of a one-year subscription for someone in the US. That was my brilliant scheme. :<)

Scriptor Senex, some of those comments are mine. You are just 17th!

  27. This is a generous offer. I can attest to the usefulness of Bookmarks. It was one of my important resources when I was a librarian and needed to be fully abreast of what was new, good and important in order to be a good Reader's Advisor when library patrons came in. And enjoyable too.

  28. That's great, commonweeder! You're in.

  29. ...it would only be added to the piles in my tv room, dining room, or bedroom.

So don't put my name in the hat - just wanted to tell you what a wonderful gift you're offering.

    Keep books alive! :)
