Quote du jour/Mahatma Gandhi

To forget how to dig the earth and tend the soil is to forget ourselves.

  1. Great quote. My most relaxing time is puttering around in the garden. It always amazes me when I find something new growing.

    1. Gandhi always amazes me. All these years later, his truths endure.

  2. So very true and we keep getting further and further away from that!

    1. There are some promising things now like urban gardening, rooftop gardening, and also younger people farming smaller places for niche markets. All of which give me hope.

  3. I love how this quote grounds me; quite literally. My father is a cattleman, and he always called himself a tiller of the soil believing quite strongly that we are required to care for it. In so doing we care for ourselves; getting in touch, I think, from whence we came and to what we shall return. (Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.)
