It's (almost) midnight and the kitties are sleeping

Do you remember Letterman singing this song?

Well, we got our kitties today, and it was 11:30 when I took these pictures. That's Gemma on the couch, and Maisy on the floor. They have been wild as sin! Play, play, play and then fall down asleep. I had forgotten the utter joy of kittens. More, and better, pictures to come.

  1. Nan, back when I was a kid, we had a cat who knocked on the door to be let in. I thought he was the smartest cat in town! Since then we've had pet dogs. Now we have a cross between a stray and a Doberman, one of seven pups born near our place. We managed to find good homes for the other six strays, which surprised animal NGOs because, at the time, there were no takers even for free pedigreed dogs. Lady Stubs has been with us for nine years now. Her small world revolves around the four of us and now our son-in-law. The rest of the world can go lump it!

  2. A happy day at your house! I will be interested to hear how your grandchildren react to them.

    1. I know they will love them! Both families have dogs, and Hazel also has two cats - one is the sister of my two. And they all loved Raya and knew how sad I was without a kitty. Pretty deep kids.

  3. New kittens! The only cats we had were two sister kittens: Angel and Sugar. They are long deceased now.

    1. Well, Raya was our last kitten, and that was in 2001! So we are having a grand time watching them. It is just so good having them in the house again. I can't live well without either dogs or cats.

  5. I look forward to seeing the pictures as the kittens grow. We have always adopted "older" cats (at 3-5 years) but used to have kittens around when I was a child.

    1. It has been 19 years since we've had a kitten, and 26 years since we've had two at a time. I had almost forgotten how very much fun they are - especially the interacting. We are really enjoying them.

  6. They do tire themselves out from all the activity. Ours, as kittens, loved those wands on a stick (still do). It tires them (and us out as well). LOL Have fun with your beautiful new residents!

    1. Can you send me a link to the wand on a stick? I don't know what it is!
They were in a cage, and then let out into a small room for part of the day, so they think our house is a vast playground! The first few hours they didn't leave the laundry room. Then they discovered the living room and haven't really left since! We put the litter pan in there, and we feed them in there. Right this minute, they are asleep on the heat register.

  7. Is there anything more fun or cute than baby cats and dogs? I remember when I first saw my Mimi - now long gone; she died in 2003 -, at my piano teacher's house, she was 12 weeks old and I fell in love at first sight. The feeling was mutual, and Mimi was the animal that was closest to me of all the cats we've had over the years. Now my home has been without a pet since 2013, when my last cat died of old age. The way I live now, on my own during the week and out for work all day and then away most weekends, would be totally unfair to any pet. I guess I'll have to wait until retirement, which is in about 15 years...

    1. She's very interested. Now they've been here for a couple days, and they feel more at home, they also are spending more time going up to Lucy. Today they almost played a bit. Precious!

    2. They will soon have Lucy wrapped around their tails. :)
