Quote du jour/Monty Don

This is a golden time for those of us in the United States who love British television. We have Netflix, Acorn, Britbox all bringing us everything from drama to mystery to garden shows. I've just finished the last episode of the first season of Big Dreams, Small Spaces on Netflix. It has been a lovely viewing experience particularly during some dreary weather in these waning days of winter. I've gotten new ideas, and I'm so excited to get going on them! This quote comes from the very end of the show. Of course, I've now ordered two books by Monty Don.

You don't ever finish a garden. Gardens are a not a place, they're a journey.
Monty Don

    2. I am a big fan of Monty's and quote his dicta often when suggesting to my husband how he might go about some garden job or other. It must be said that any advice prefaced by "Monty says ..." is usually met with a "you can jolly well get Monty to do it, then", but he likes him well enough, really. Any books of his I have read have been excellent.

  2. Love Monty Don and Gardener's World. I read his book about French gardens last year, The Road to Tholonet, and really enjoyed his take on France.

  6. I loved Small Spaces Big Dreams and can't wait for more episodes and spring. Also Dr Findley has been good too. So true gardens are a journey, which I think is what makes gardening special. I love a journey.

  8. My favorite gardening quote is that it's the triumph of optimism over experience...But this time every year my soul fills with hope!

    1. It is so true, isn't it. I always, always think that this is the year I will achieve something or other. Sometimes I do, most often I don't, but I never lose hope. Gardening is indeed a journey.

  9. I've not come across Monty Don yet, but then it is mostly mysteries we get from the UK here on Germany TV, and when I am in England, we usually don't watch garden (or other) shows. Do you know Escape to the Country? I have watched each and every episode set in Yorkshire that I could find on youtube!
