Teaser Tuesdays

Miz B hosts Teaser Tuesdays.
Grab your current read.
Let the book fall open to a random page.
Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
You also need to share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given!
Please avoid spoilers!

I do remember that we were both insistent that we had no worries about Sam. We used Sam as a point of comparison.

  1. "Really, Hester dear," Ivy said reproachfully, "I'm only fifty-one, a comparatively young woman."

"Depends on who you are compared with," Evelyn drawled.

This book is just one long chuckle from beginning to end.

  3. From The Family Man by Elinor Lipman:

"Six,'' says Lief. He asks Henry how he came into possession of coasters that say A Raisin in the Sun, and are they suede?"

  4. Swannie? She got plumb well, and learned to walk real good on one leg and some crutches, and got married to a boy down in Warrensville and moved off the mountain, and had a passel of kids of her own. Had herself a life. Ain't that what we all want, I reckon? Some kind of life of our own.

  6. I so want to read this book. I put it on my TBR list after reading Nick Hornby's book, The Polysyllabic Spree, where he recommended it. Loved your teaser!!

  7. "Light poured through the window cut into the stone wall, filling her curly hair with fire. The air was as humid as a mouth."

"I was sitting on the deck of my house in a bruise colored twilight, in a trance as windows up and down the street gleamed with a pale golden sheen, when the phone rang."

  8. Wow! I never expected any comments with quotes! Thank you so much for taking the time to do so. I'm noting down each of the books because they all sound very good. BookishNYC, coasters with A Raisin in the Sun on them - very intriguing. Donna, I love the description of Swannie's life. I've read only The Christmas Letters by her, and should read more. Susan, I have a dread about what that phone call will bring. :<)

Kiirstin, yes I will review it when I finish. I'm finding it utterly fascinating. And Staci, Nick H. wrote a wonderful prologue. If you go here:

You'll see that I got the idea of this book from him as well! Great minds, my dear.:<) I also see in my review that the English title was a bit different. Why do they do that??

  9. "Everyone knew the rule was you could only be guided either by your own breed or one that was at least part of your bloodline. The first time Pilot had called for a guide, an old beagle arrived panting as though it had just run back from the moon and was aboout to drop dead from exhaustion."

I am soooo enjoying this one!
