Today's picture/We love tomatoes!

Not very clear since I took it through the screen, and used the zoom, but there are a mother and her baby eating tomatoes. They've been coming around for a few days, usually with the other two fawns. Makes us happy we didn't clean up the garden yet.

  1. I wonder how people can even have gardens considering how many deer there are. In Nashville they live in the city limits and graze on people's lawns. I will not even drive Route 100 into town anymore because they are all over the road. In mobs. They even live here at these apartments and are so tame they let people with dogs on leashes get within 20 feet. You are one in a million to share your tomatoes with them!

    1. Here, we are lucky. We have a lot of land and don't have trouble with animals eating our garden. We've let this one go. That's why they are there. There wasn't a sign of a deer there all summer though they were in the fields and woods. Our close neighbor feeds them in the winter, as do Tom and I to a lesser degree. We are big deer fans around here!

  2. Well, maybe they will be able to help you clean up a bit!!! Great shot!

  3. How wonderful! I'll get my cup of coffee and be over to sit and watch them!

  4. Lovely to share the end of your harvest with them. We have blacktail deer around here and most of the gardening neighbors have made peace with them as you have. The sight of them is worth the hassle they tell me! (We don't have a garden, so we just enjoy watching wildlife without any worries at all!)

    1. I'll have to go look for a pic of blackmail. These are whitetails.

  5. Richard just saw a fawn in our yard today! He said it was either a fawn or a big dog with a white tail! (I missed it, I was at work.)
I could take a bite out of one of those apples in your header photo.

  6. Nan, what a treasure you are. The thrill of seeing deer, raccoons, armadillo, possum, squirrels, foxes, bobcats; let alone the number of birds we enjoy far outweighs any objections we could have to their presence. Bliss!

    1. No armadillos or possums here! We've heard a bobcat, we think, but they are elusive. I've seen maybe three foxes in the 31 years we've lived here. The squirrels and chipmunks are like family pets. :<) Haven't seen a raccoon in probably 28 years. Funny how that is. We do hear a lot of coyotes. Lots of deer, occasional bear and moose.

  7. This is such a great picture. There is something so beautiful about a doe and her fawn when you see them. I hope they enjoyed your tomatoes.

    1. The fawns took our breath away when they were really small. Oh, to see them dash across the field.

  8. Nan, that is so beautiful, and I am so envious... I wish I loved somewhere rural where there were deer and other wildlife.

  9. Just looked out the window and there are about 20 turkeys in my drive. I love seeing animals so close to house. One of the pleasures of moving back to the country...

    1. Oh, don't you just love those turkeys?!! The subtle colors of the feathers, those faces 'only a mother could love' yet I find adorable.
It is truly a great pleasure to share life with them.

  10. Living in town, we don't get much in the way of wildlife. Only the occasional possum, turkey, and turkey vultures. We have far too many rabbits and squirrels, however. I think I'd rather have deer eating my veggies than squirrels eating my hibiscus and rabbits eating my roses. ;)

    1. I love them all.
Never saw an opossum, but I've read enough to know I don't think I'd like them.
Saw my first turkey vultures this summer, and was so surprised to hear that they don't kill anything. They are quite gentle birds, eating only what is already dead. More here.

  11. They are beautiful! No chance of seeing any deer here in town - we are way too urban here. But I saw plenty in the vineyards when I went walking with my Mum a few weeks ago!
