And it is exceedingly short, his galloping life. Dogs die so soon. I have my stories of that grief, no doubt many of you do also. It is almost a failure of will, a failure of love, to let them grow old - or so it feels. We would do anything to keep them with us, and to keep them young. The one gift we cannot give. Our beloved Sadie was put down yesterday afternoon after months of up and down health problems. During the up times we kept hoping she could come back, and during the downs we felt such despair. Yesterday we took her out walking just a little bit.
My poor old girl. How I miss her.
Oh Nan, I'm so sorry. RIP dear Sadie.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that Sadie's time came, Nan. I know you will miss her dreadfully. She had a good life though. Take care!
ReplyDeleteNan, I can only say I'm so sorry. Mary Oliver says it all. It is a deep, deep hurt , this loss of a dear friend.
ReplyDeleteBeen there too.
Mary
Oh Nan, my heart aches with you! There's nothing quite like the love of a dog. After losing the last of our 3 labs I just can't do it again so we've decided no more dogs. For now.
ReplyDeleteOh Nan, what a sad loss for your family. Hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your loss, I know how you feel. My old boy passed 22 months ago; I had him put down because of his suffering due to old age and poor health. Even when you know it's the correct, kind, loving choice - it is so difficult and sad. My heart goes out to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI's so sorry to hear about Sadie. It's always hard to lose a beloved pet.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to read this. These are such tough days, when we lose a dear pet who was truly part of the family. Sincere sympathy.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry, I know how it makes your heart ache. I lost both my dogs and cat last year and it's so empty without them. I hope you can look back on happy times which I'm sure they are many - I'm crying with you.

How sad. I'm so sorry to hear that. I've been there, several times and I know you will never forget. As we get older, it seems harder, doesn't it. We long to keep our friends forever and it just can't be. That's a beautiful picture, one to treasure.
ReplyDeleteSending hugs ...you made the kindest call but it still hurts...they don't live long enough ..But then they share that quality with any living thing that we love xxxx
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry

ReplyDeleteOh my Dear Nan. I am so sorry for your loss. It was the right thing but that does not make it easier. Beautiful that you and Hazel got to go on one more walk with her. Her last gift to you. I am so sorry.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry your dear Sadie has passed; hope one day you will meet again.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry, Nan. My heart breaks for you. Sending hugs.
ReplyDeleteNan, dear, I'm so sorry. It hurts so much, for such a long long time.
ReplyDeleteIt's the last love you show them, knowing when it's time to agree to ending their pain and looking them in the eyes as they go.
Love,
Dewena
Dear Nan, I am very sorry. All of us who have (had) pets know how that feels.
ReplyDeleteOH, Nan. I'm so sorry to hear about Sadie. Animals have a way of tunneling right into our very souls.
ReplyDeleteThoughts of care and comfort to you. So sorry.
ReplyDeleteOh Nan, I'm so very sorry you lost your dear Sadie. The death of a pet is one of the hardest things in this life and may God continue to comfort you as only He can. My condolences to you and your family on the loss of your friend. .... Thinking of you, Debra.

Nan,
ReplyDeleteOur 11 year old dobie and I2 year old shepherd died within a year of each other. Cancer and hip dysplasia. The house was so empty. The places they curled up in....the chairs they owned......their favorite digging holes....the fence they chewed down. Just so many spaces they filled. Empty. (Plus the family memories.....Maura and Max grew up with them. Or perhaps Sophie and Luke grew up with the children). We ended up with 6 corgis. And 2 months ago-----a shepherd pup. Such a handsome boy. Such crazy corgis.
It's most definitely not empty around here anymore. What on earth were we thinking?! :)
Dear Nan,
ReplyDeleteI am very sorry for your loss. What a sweet dog! I can tell by your photos of her and the way you talk about her. Sweet Sadie. Do you remember the song by Chas & Dave? "I Miss You Girl"? I listened to that when I lost my cat, its how I felt.
Oh, Nan, I am so sorry to read about your Sadie. I hope you will feel some comforting thoughts coming your way, knowing the grief that will flow for you.
ReplyDeleteNan, sorry for your loss. Pets are such dear companions. That's lovely that you have that photo of her walk the day before.
ReplyDeleteI'm very sad to hear this, Nan. So sorry for your loss. Dogs always wind up breaking our hearts in the end. But it's part of the bargain we make when we allow them into our lives. And oh by the way, what would our lives be if we didn't? Like Mary Oliver says in your quote, 'I have my stories of that grief...' Yeah, I know how you feel. But Sadie would bless you if she could.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, Nan. That's an awful loss.
