Moondance

Can you see this amazing almost full moon (officially 12.23 am eastern time on Sunday) this evening? Wish I had a great camera to capture it.

Of course the song that comes to mind is Van's Moondance. This is from 1979. Though it says Belfast, the notes say it was really in Dublin. Just the best, best song.

  1. I've always loved this song. It just makes me feel happy. Thanks for reminding me about it, Nan. It goes on the iPod today.

    1. I love all his work! I have albums and cds and just bought his most recent on vinyl. Maybe now that Dylan got the prize, they will think of Van. He is such a great poet.

  2. I'm quite the fan of Van Morrison, I listened to his tapes all through college.
    Pretty moon shot.

  3. I may have mentioned it before, if so please forgive the name dropping, but about 25 years ago I went to a friend's birthday party and there he was, Van the Man in person. It was a hot night and I went outside for some air, saw a figure sitting beside a tree, yes, it was him. We had a good chat, not about his music, I didn't want to crowd him as a fan, but about the trees etc He was so nice, very genuine, quiet, quite shy and at the end he came up to me and said goodbye. I think this is one of my favourite tracks. Thank you Nan for the memory. xx

    1. No, you hadn't told me! Lucky, lucky, lucky you to see him in such a setting. I've always thought he was shy, and that his sometimes grouchiness at concerts might be due to that. What a wonderful memory. Thanks so much for telling me this story, Carole!

  4. I have not heard this in ages. Thank you.
We are overcast tonight, so . . . no moon show tonight. Enjoy the view.

    1. Sorry you are overcast. Early this evening ours was so amazing. Big and yellow and you could see the man in the moon face!

  5. It's really been an amazingly bright moon the past few nights, there weren't many (if any) clouds here. Looking across the moon-lit gardens from my kitchen window had something magical to it, but I didn't take a picture - I knew it would not have turned out the way I saw it with my own eyes.

    1. Yes, it has been a very bright moon here, too. And my photo isn't even close to how it looked!

  6. My husband stopped the car tonight as we driving home just to stare at the moon. Since we live in the city, we don't have a big expanse of sky in which to enjoy a full moon.

  7. I was just gazing out my kitchen window a few minutes ago (6:30 a.m. on Monday morning) and the moon was still very full and bright! I was tempted to run outside and take a picture, but decided to just enjoy the view from inside. My moon photos never turn out very well!

Van the Man! Love him and love this song. Time to put one of his cds on the Bose today. :)

    1. Mine don't either. Although we used the telescope once and that seemed to help. Do you have Van's latest album? It is called Keep Me Singing.

    2. Nope. Don't have it, but I saw it on the rack at work today. Is it good?

    3. Yes, buy it tomorrow. I bought it on vinyl. So happy we love a lot of the same music. Makes up for the books thing. haha

  8. Definitely one of the classic songs, although I think my favorite Morrison tune is Into the Mystic. Great job on taking the full moon's portrait! :)

    1. I honestly don't think I could choose a favorite. It would be like choosing a fave dog, if I had more than one!

  9. My Dad called me last night and said, "Look east!" I did so and saw the beautiful moon! My Dad is 89. I hope I have his enthusiasm! :-)
