Very cute. And the next night I had let Lucy out, and went to check on the porch and there was Lucy lying down just staring at it. I hustled her right in.
Mr Toad visiting? lucky you! I found a large pupae hatching out tonight whilst deadheading roses, a moth I think. Couldn't get a pic because he tucked himself away behing a bunch of leaves - clever boy - he won't be a bird's breakfast once he's dry enough to fly away. I wonder what kind of moth he was?
I like toads with their beautiful, somewhat mysterious eyes. Usually my parents have some at the allotment, they (the toads, not my parents) use the little pond for breeding, but I don't think there are any this year.
I was going to reply that it is a toad, but according to this site http://www.livescience.com/34432-frog-or-toad.html it is hard to distinguish between the two.
Brings back some memories. When I was a kid, my brothers and I would catch toads and frogs in our backyard. The toads were generally smaller than the one in the photo and more pale.
I'll answer your comments as soon as I possibly can. Please do come back if you've asked a question. Also, you may comment on any post, no matter how old, and I will see it.
Big one!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is! And the 'leavings' are big, too. For years we thought them fox poops but no, they came from the toads.
DeleteWhat a cute little toad.

DeleteThey come up on our patio at night too. Scare the crap out of me if they hop from behind a chair and I didn't know they were there!
ReplyDeleteYes! This one was a surprise, too!

ReplyDeleteMaybe you will be lucky enough to see it hatch!

ReplyDeleteGlad you clarified who uses the pond. ;<))
DeleteThese are pleasant surprises, aren't they? They have a tendency to hide under the outside door jam.
ReplyDeleteThey are so still and patient. They can sit for ages waiting for just the right bug (I assume that's what they are doing).
DeleteWow. That's some frog!

Cutie! And he sat still long enough for you to get a photo. I don't see many toads, although I'm sure they're around.
ReplyDeleteIt was indeed very still, and the next night it had moved down only about three feet - still looking at the wall.
DeleteLovely photo.
