Verifying those words

I have heard from a few people that they are having trouble with the word verification. I have noticed in the past week that blogger has changed it. It used to be a little word, but now it is one printed clear word and a second word that is quite difficult to read. I've had to do it two or three times on other blogs. So, I am getting rid of it here. It does give me more spam, but there's a spam folder and I'll just empty it. No big deal.

  1. Yes... I turned mine back on again, struggled with it on other people's blogs and have just turned the wretched thing back off again. Horrible thing.

I hope you got my e.mail about the lovely book.

    1. I wonder why blogger decided to go with the new format. Maybe spammers were getting through the one-word previously used. Wretched is right!

I did! And just wrote back to you,Cath.

  2. Thanks! Captcha with Blogger used to be annoying but tolerable... and I think it has now crossed that line. Ah well.

    1. The new one I had often seen on non-blogger blogs, but the blogger words were often humorous or sweet. Not now.

    1. Literally, I'm sure! The first printed word was clear, but not that squiggly last one. I know that on other blogs I'd sometimes type it in three times, and the last one I still couldn't tell if it was right or not. I figured they just let me in for trying so hard. :<)

  4. Good - it's a real apin, like you I'm having to have 2 or 3 goes at commenting on many blogs. Let's hope they do away with it quickly for a more legible word verification.

    1. As I said to Cath, maybe there were real spam problems with the old way. But who knows.

  5. I thought it was just me.I wondered why I was doing it twice when I got the word right the first time. I am glad you said something.

    1. It is a bit crazy, Betsy. There must be a reason why they changed.

  6. Thank you. Those new ones are a pain in the behind. Very strange, I guess, that I don't have it yet I don't get spam. (Knock on wood that I didn't just jinx myself.)

I love the eyes on your cat above. What a beauty.

  7. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was just griping about how much harder the two words are to decipher -the verification process was taking more time than the comment. I got rid of word verification and moderate comments more than a few days old. That seems to be working well so far.

    1. I do wonder why blogger did this, but I'm sure there was a reason. I would guess a lot of people will get rid of it. I do moderate just because I get occasional weird comments and I like to delete them before they show up.

    1. They are really hard to read with letters on top of other letters sometimes.

  10. Good idea! I'm not even sure if I have them on my blog, but they stink! It's hard enough to read the code from before, let alone this 'new' one installed.

Loved your thank you card. So unnecessary, my friend, but sweetly received all the same.

    1. I wonder if it makes any kind of difference to blogger whether people use it or not. And I wonder if the change has anything to do with this whole google privacy change that is going to happen.

  12. Dear Nan,
I left a comment somewhere and it took it three times to figure out that first word! Somewhere someone is laughing at this...
    Thanks for making it easier!

  13. Most of the spam I get is posted on older posts. For that reason, I've changed to only requiring word verification on posts two weeks or older. It works pretty well that way, I think.

    1. Interesting. I'll see how this goes. I already moderate so I should be fine. Thanks, though.

  14. I turned mine off a few months ago, and have never been sorry. Blogger has surprisingly good spam detection.
    Have a super Sunday :)

    1. Yeah, they must have just started it. I can't help but think it has something to do with this whole new privacy thing coming up. But that's the conspiracy theorist in me talking. :<)

  16. Thanks, Nan. I just did the same. I was getting so frustrated!

    1. There are 'cuter' captchas that have symbols instead of words that they could have used.
My guess is blogger may change this if people complain.

  17. Thank you. I was having so much trouble reading them, Nan, so this will be better. I hope your spam isn't too bad.

    1. Doesn't matter if it is - I'll just delete. I wonder if this is why you were having so much trouble before, and I didn't even know it had changed??

  18. Thank you, thank you! I nearly threw in the towel on my comments on half a dozen blogs this weekend...
