Because Tom and I get up at different times, I eat my breakfast alone. It is a little oasis for me. I am not much a creature of routine, but this meal is the same every day: my toasted homemade bread, plain yogurt with fruit (blueberries and cherry plums today), coffee, orange juice, and water. And my book. I got a terrific new book holder, and I happily read quietly for that time. The rest of the day is filled with something different each day, but this remains the same and I love it.
Your homemade bread looks delicious. Love that book holder, too! xo
ReplyDeleteIt is great because it holds the pages. And the holders can be tightened when they loosen up. Also, good for heavy books like the one I'm reading not.
DeleteHabits keep us all sane.
ReplyDeleteI'm really not a creature of habit. I change things all the time, but my breakfast is my constant.
DeleteLovely photo of a quiet morning. And I love that book holder too! I always have to have something to read while eating as am a widow these last five years. Today would have been our anniversary.
ReplyDeleteMary
Oh, Mary, I am so sorry. Yes, reading can be such a solace.
DeleteA nice routine to start the day off right is important, I think. My breakfast is not nearly so photogenic, but when I vary the routine too much or too often, the rest of the day starts to feel a little incomplete and/or off-kilter. Not sure what that says about me.
ReplyDeleteVery funny about the "photogenic" and very interesting about varying the routine.
DeleteYour morning routine sounds peaceful and that book holder useful. I usually have oatmeal and like when my blueberries are available in my garden, so tasty.
ReplyDeleteIt is blueberry season here now. Yum!
DeleteNow I want to make more wheat bread. I usually make a loaf, enjoy some hot then slice it and freeze it. I like to grab a slice or two from the freezer when I want toast. Love that book holder!
ReplyDeleteI make two loaves twice a week. It truly is the"staff of life". I looked up staff and read this:
Delete"a long stick used as a support". I would say that was just about right. I could not live without it.
That book holder is genius! So much better than falling into your breakfast! And I wish I could sit with you at breakfast and have some of your homemade bread. I would be quiet. No promises for after we finish breakfast though!😊
ReplyDeleteFor me, it is all about holding the pages! I loved what you wrote. Thank you!
DeleteThat is a very nice book holder, and the breakfast looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteIt is. I am thrilled with it!
DeleteI am the last holdout and still read the daily newspaper at breakfast (but the digital version, on my IPAD) and I have a perfect holder for it. Forgot to take it when we went camping recently and was lost without it (the holder -- I remembered the IPAD). Guess that says a lot about me being a creature of habit atbreakfast -- even on vacation.
ReplyDeleteI never did read a newspaper at breakfast. And I now never read one anywhere! I read the local news online, and stay miles away from anything political, while Tom is just the opposite! Sorry you forgot your holder! I am lost without mine. Hard to eat and hold a book or paper at the same time.
DeleteWhat a lovely way to start the day. A whole chapter or a short story read in the morning kind of sets you up I think!
ReplyDeleteI do try to read as long as I can. I so agree with what you said!
DeleteI love routines and your morning routine sounds wonderful with the book. Personally, I go outside, water my plants, take a 2 mile walk, come home and do a 10 minute tai chi video before I begin the day. Otherwise I'm fairly lazy unless it's a day that I play canasta or mah Jong. Ah retirement!
ReplyDeleteI got distracted away from my computer when I first read this but wanted to come back and say that I've read that having the same thing every day for breakfast is a good habit. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I used to put so much time in rotating a variety of menus for it but I've come to see the advantage now of making breakfast easier on myself. I love your book holder as I'm constantly trying to prop my book up, turn pages, reader glasses on and off, etc. For a few years I took pictures of my breakfast, intending to do a blog series called "Breakfast with ________________." I think I've changed the curtains at the breakfast table three times since I began taking pictures so might not ever get around to using it. Now I'll go to your new breakfast post that sounds delightful!
