I am currently reading Jan Morris' book, In My Mind's Eye: A Thought Diary, published in 2018. It begins on Day 1, and continues through Day 188, in 2017 when she turned 91. I went searching for a video of her at this time in her life, and here it is.
A great obituary. She was very much fun to read, all her own opinions (and she did have them!), and always interesting topics. I haven't read nearly as much as I want ... yet.
I can't believe I am not even a decade younger than Ms Morris and yet I still think of 90 as elderly. I've got to get rid of that mindset -- and people like her will help.
I'll answer your comments as soon as I possibly can. Please do come back if you've asked a question. Also, you may comment on any post, no matter how old, and I will see it.
That sounds like an interesting book. I love your blog header!
ReplyDeleteI like her writing, and this is especially interesting being daily thoughts.
DeleteI do love Morris, I really enjoyed her final book of essays a little while ago but anything by her is worth reading!
ReplyDeleteWas it In My Mind's Eye? Or the posthumously published Allegorizings? I am a big fan, too.
DeleteI think at 91 there's every excuse for taking shameless advantage of it! I intend to if I granted that gift.
ReplyDeleteShe had such a spirit, and mentally as bright as a younger person. I'm already good at being helped. haha
DeleteI was unfamiliar with Jan Morris but what an extraordinary life! https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/nov/20/jan-morris-obituary

ReplyDeleteYes, absolutely! Tom's mother is 95 and not really ill, though weak and doesn't do much in the nursing home, but her mind is just fine.
