David Bowie – Life On Mars? (Official Video)

This evening I watched a live Instagram of Lukas Nelson, and one of the songs he sang was Bowie's "Life On Mars" in honor of the Mars landing. I was never a huge Bowie fan, but I still thought this was appropriate today. And here he is way back in 1973. Does not seem possible it was that long ago.

  1. Oh boy, that sounds as fresh as if it had been recorded yesterday. We saw him live in 1972.
Did you ever see the British TV series Life on Mars, starring John Simm and Philip Glenister? I loved it.
After Bowie died, Rick Wakeman recorded a piano version of Life on Mars, which I bought (all profit to cancer charities).

    1. It really does! So you saw him a year before this video!
Yes, I did, and liked it very much.
What a nice thing for him to do, and for you to buy.
If you come back, your blog tells me that I have been "banned from commenting". I'm quite sure those aren't your words haha, and I wonder if it is because we have an ad blocker. There is a notice at the bottom of Live Journal that says says my ad blocker is interfering the page.

    2. Certainly not my words! This ad thing is a problem. I've had people complain about them but as I never see them, I can't comment. Nor do I ever see the 'like' button which is apparently now available.

The only solution I can think of is for you to join LJ (the free version) and 'friend' me. I've seen blogs there where people never post anything and it doesn't seem to matter.

    3. We can just shut off the ad blocker and then put it back on again... if I feel I have anything really marvellous to say!! haha

  2. I didn't remember this song until I heard it. Quite appropriate for today.
Everything hates ad blocker. There are several things I would like to readbut rejects me due to ad blocker. Bah...

    1. Same thing with me about the song! I found I really liked it.
Her blog is the only thing I care about, and I told her I can always turn it off and then on again if I want to comment.

  3. I heard an old interview with Bowie recently, he was incredibly smart and predicted many of the advantages (and disadvantages) of the internet age, long before anyone else had worked out what was happening.

  4. I watched the Mars landing on TV, coverage started here at 9:00 pm, so I had time to watch it and listen to the comments and interviews. It was rather exciting, wasn't it!
The "Life on Mars" series - I watched bits of it and found it very clever, but somehow couldn't get "into" it. Maybe one day I'll give it another try.

    1. Really I watched it so long ago, I don't remember it all that well. Maybe I'll try and find it to watch again.

  5. Bowie was a unique musical artist. Not someone I listened to on a daily basis but every so often I enjoy playing his music on my stereo. Thanks for the memory.

    1. I don't think I own an album, but do enjoy the occasional song on the radio.

  6. There's a very good series called Life On Mars also. I know how much you love British shows! Check it out! We saw it years ago but you still must be able to see it.
