This morning I heard an Elvis song I had never heard before. It is from the movie Live a Little, Love a Little. I'd love to have put up a video of just the man singing it, but all I could find was a movie clip. Still, fun to see Elvis driving around.
I was so taken by the song, perhaps in part because it is a reminder that there still is beauty in the world when horrible and stressful things are going on. The song was written and the movie released in 1968, itself not an easy year by any means.
Song written by Guy Fletcher and Doug Flett
"Wonderful World"
This is a wonderful day
It's as bright as a day's ever been
There is a big yellow sun looking down
On a wonderful scene
Up in the blue sky birds fly
And sing our cares away
And out of each throat each note
Greets a wonderful day
There is the sound of a symphony
Carried along on the breeze
Even the flowers are swaying in time
With the leaves on the trees
Heaven is found right here on the earth
It surrounds us in the wonderful things all around
In this wonderful wonderful
Wonderful wonderful world
This is a wonderful day
It's as bright as a day's ever been
There is a big yellow sun looking down
On a wonderful scene
Heaven is found right here on the earth
It surrounds us in the wonderful things all around
In this wonderful wonderful
Wonderful wonderful world
Wonderful world, this wonderful world
Wonderful world, this wonderful world
Wonderful world, this wonderful world
It's as bright as a day's ever been
There is a big yellow sun looking down
On a wonderful scene
Up in the blue sky birds fly
And sing our cares away
And out of each throat each note
Greets a wonderful day
There is the sound of a symphony
Carried along on the breeze
Even the flowers are swaying in time
With the leaves on the trees
Heaven is found right here on the earth
It surrounds us in the wonderful things all around
In this wonderful wonderful
Wonderful wonderful world
This is a wonderful day
It's as bright as a day's ever been
There is a big yellow sun looking down
On a wonderful scene
Heaven is found right here on the earth
It surrounds us in the wonderful things all around
In this wonderful wonderful
Wonderful wonderful world
Wonderful world, this wonderful world
Wonderful world, this wonderful world
Wonderful world, this wonderful world
I have never heard it before either but I enjoyed it, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI have heard many Elvis songs on the show that I hadn't heard before! I'm happy you liked it!
DeleteWhat a lovely header photograph, and wonderful Elvis. I'm smiling.
ReplyDeleteThat makes me happy!
DeleteWhat fun! I loved watching the video (maybe I should start making videos for Rod's Music Monday posts!) and like you, I've never heard of this song.
ReplyDeleteLove those garlic chives. They look like our Sea Pinks.
"garlic chives" - is that what you call them? I've never heard that. We just call them "chives".
DeleteAnd yes, you should make Rod videos!
A wonderful message for now! Thank you for posting this!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. I thought it was pretty great.
DeleteGreat header picture!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know this particular Elvis song, either. My Mum and I have watched all those films together, it was our Friday afternoon tradition when they were re-run on German TV in my late teens, me coming home from Librarian school for the weekend and my Mum having finished work for the week as well, just the two of us, before my Dad and sister came home from work in time for dinner.
In the lyrics, I love the line about the birds singing our cares away. Doesn't it really feel like that when we listen to the beautiful birdsong around us?
I love the story about you and your mother watching Elvis movies.
DeleteAnother who never heard this one! Thanks Nan. I also have chives in full bloom and of course you can eat the leaves (bonus!) x
ReplyDeleteThis is the first year I've really let them all flower. There are still plenty that I can eat, but since I am the only one, I thought I'd have pretty flowers, as well!
DeleteI am so glad you posted this Nan. I needed something wonderful to brighten my world right now.
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased!
DeleteWow, I don't remember that song or the movie at all. Hard to believe it's something from 1968...what a year that was for this country. Much like this one, really.
ReplyDeleteThat struck me, as well. It just shows that there are always all kinds of different things happening in the world at the same time.
