Quote du jour/ The Old Farmer's Almanac Engagement Calendar

March 1894

All the winter work should be finished up this month [March] in order to be ready for outdoor work as soon as the weather will permit. The man who always keeps two weeks behind his work never makes a success in any business.

    1. Tom's mother. She just turned 91 last week! We stayed only a few minutes. The kids all made her birthday cards. My own mother died in 1973.

  2. That's a lovely picture. No gardening here, just sortine books.

    1. Thank you! No gardening here either, except for that joy of joy - deciding what I want to plant from the seed catalogues.

  3. We don't do much gardening here in our little forest, but we will get out and pull up the invasive ivy, rake up leaves and branches, etc. once the weather gets a little bit warmer. The sun is shining today and it's supposed to get up to 50!

I love, love, love your new header, Nan. What beautiful and happy children!! It looks as if they really enjoy spending time together. I'm sure Tom's mom appreciated the visit.

    1. Thank you! They had all made her birthday cards and she was amazed that the two oldest could write words! They love spending time together. Margaret asked Hazel what she wanted to do on Feb vacation and the only thing she said was to see Campbell and Indy! They love each other like no kids I've ever known. Makes me SO happy.
      Invasive ivy sounds pretty bad!

    2. What a sweet girl! Here's a link about the ivy. It can really cause problems to the trees in a forest!

I'm anxious to hear what you think about France Is A Feast! The cover alone has me interested.

    3. Awful, awful plant! There are so many terrible invasive plants. There are a lot here, too. I put down the France book for now. I thought you had read it.

    4. No, I haven't read that particular book. Was it mainly photographs? The book I read was My Life in France.

    5. It is a book of Paul's photographs, and they are just lovely. He and Julia were so very, very happy. There's a good write-up of the book here. https://www.bonappetit.com/story/julia-child-never-before
And I know, you've told me how to make a link but I just can't seem to get it. haha

    6. Thanks for posting the link to the article, Nan. Paul really captured Julia's personality in his wonderful photos!

  5. Such a great picture, a happy picture! And the quote reminds me of when I got out of the car yesterday after we'd been to the grocery store. I looked at our back garden area and was unpleasantly surprised at how messy things looked. Winter seems to do that and we have some tidying outside to do before the actual grass mowing, etc. will begin in earnest.

    1. Thank you!
At least you can see "how messy things looked". Everything here well-buried in the snow!
