This month's quote from the Irish Writers Calendar
comes from Oliver Goldsmith.
"I love everything that is old; old friends, old times, old manners, old books, old wines."
It seemed this quote was everywhere a few years ago. I might have first read it in a Susan Branch book. Goldsmith is the second oldest writer on the calendar, and it is interesting how his words still resonate with us all these years later.
I don't love everything old, but I do love old friends and old books. Well, maybe not those old mass market paperbacks - the print is too small. LOL
ReplyDeleteLove your new header! Beautiful!
Thanks. Tom took it up the hill. I thought it was just beautiful.
DeleteI have a lot of Irish in me, too.
ReplyDeleteI love the quote AND your header! Tell Tom it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI have a ceramic plaque which reads:
Old wood to burn,
Old wine to drink,
Old friends to trust,
Old books to read.
I believe you once gave me this plaque but it got broken - was outdoors. Not sure what happened.
DeleteI thought I might have given you this! I bought one for myself and one for my mom, as well. Sorry yours got broken! :(
DeleteNan, Cathy at 746 Books is hosting a Read Irish month in March. All things Irish, recipes, movies, painters, books, music etc. Sounds like fun. https://746books.com/2018/02/16/announcing-reading-ireland-month-2018/
