Hooray! Problem Solved

Today Margaret was here and decided to pay a bill via her bank's site on our computer. She couldn't sign in using Chrome. There was a pop-up message that said the problem was with cookies. Tom went into Chrome preferences, and saw that the "block third party cookies and site data" was checked so he unchecked it, and voila, Margaret could get into her account, and I am now signed into my blog via Chrome.

So, here is what had happened. About a month ago, we started getting weird spam in our email inbox. Tom thought maybe it had to do with cookies so he went into Chrome and checked the box that said: "block third party cookies and site data." This is what made it impossible for me to post on my blog via Chrome. So now, I'm all set.

I posted to a Google forum the other day about the problem, and I got an email back that I hadn't had a chance to read yet. I just did so, and it said to try to "enable third party cookies."

I thank you all for your responses to my post about maybe switching to Wordpress. I still may do so, but for now will just stay here.

    1. Yes! Safari is okay but I so prefer Chrome when it comes to the blog.

  2. You'd possibly still be able to sign into your blog via Chrome if you disabled third party cookies again. That setting should never have stopped you in the first place, as Chrome and Blogger/Blogspot are both Google-owned, so not really "third parties" to each other.
The spam mails usually are not cookie-related. The data collected via cookies is mostly used to place specific adverts on the sites you visit, unless of course you use an adblocker.

    1. Yes, we have three adblockers. I'm all set now, and so happy it worked out.

  3. That's great! I'm so glad it was a simple solution.

I'm still calling one of two sons who are techies whenever a problem arises, like this morning my laptop screen was frozen and I knew to restart it but couldn't get it to shut down until my son reminded me, "Mom, hold the button down, don't just hit it once." Problem solved.

  4. Hello Nan, I’m very glad you are still here because I would miss you if you went away! :)
It will be interesting to hear how you get on if you do swap to Wordpress, I’ve thought about it but I’m rather cowardly so I will probably stay with Blogger for now.

    1. Oh, thanks! I don't think I'll be switching any time soon. Other than the fact I don't 'own' my stuff, I really like blogger.

  5. I am so lucky to have a tech expert at my side. He not only digs the garden, he unties internet knots.

  6. Oh I remember when Bill did that years ago -- had forgotten all about it. He thought he was protecting our privacy by blocking them (which is probably true). But our techie son said 'you've gotta have the cookies Dad',

    1. I love it when people actually understand these things. I just use computers. I don't have a clue how they work.
