I never heard Buddy Holly sing True Love Ways. It was recorded only four months before he died. The first time I heard it was when Peter and Gordon sang it in the mid-1960s. I loved the song, and thought it achingly beautiful. I still do. Many years later, I learned that Buddy Holly had written it.
I think it is wonderful, and I offer it as a songwriting as poetry posting. First you may hear Buddy Holly singing it, and then Peter and Gordon.
Hello Nan, I can’t say the plane crash had a huge impact on me (shallow child that I was), but I do remember the way my parents reacted with shock and real sadness. I was born in 1948 so you and I must be close in age. It was lovely to hear both versions of the song again, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy you liked the music. And yes, 1948. Not doing so well on my birth year reading challenge! Very busy winter and spring which hasn't left me much reading time.
DeleteSweet header photo. True love...
ReplyDeleteThat was on Easter Sunday. We had a lovely time.
DeleteI cry at the end of the movie every time we watch it. It saddens me so much that we lost this talented man and all the songs he might have written, if only.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this one that I hadn't heard.
I've not seen the movie - don't think I could take it. He was so very talented. I'm pleased that now you've heard True Love Ways. Such a beautiful song.
DeleteI was born in 1968, but the plane crash still had an impact on my life - robbing us all of what else those three talented musicians could have created, had they lived longer.
ReplyDeleteI've always had a bit of a soft spot for Buddy Holly, and I only knew "True Love Ways" as his song.
Great header photo!
Thank you! It is out back of Matt and Margaret and Hazel's house.
DeleteNan, you MUST see the Buddy Holly movie, promise me you will! It IS sad but it also shows how incredibly talented he was and how lucky we were to have him and his music!
ReplyDeleteHe was a WONDERFUL songwriter AND musician and singer! So intelligent and forward thinking and this does come across in the film! PLEASE watch it!!
Oh, okay! I will try and find it on you tube. I love his work.
DeleteThere was a lot of talent in that era. I found it interesting when I first learned that the song "The Day The Music Died" was about that tragic plane crash. I love the view of the woods on your blog header. It reminds me of the annual fishing trips we used to take in northern Maine and New Hampshire.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, though I still don't understand bits of that song. ;<))
