Quote du jour/Lionel Hardcastle

Excellent chip! I like a good chip. Very rare thing you know these days, a really good chip.
Lionel Hardcastle
As Time Goes By

Our own excellent chips aka French fries, made at home in the Fry Daddy.

  1. MMMmmmm, terrible weakness for really good fries... makes me want to trot out and get a Fry Daddy.... and then wait for my potatoes to grow up to be "fry size".
I could watch Lionel whilst I waited... :))))

    1. I am quite sure I could eat them every day. The FD is great because it isn't messy, and it makes just the right amount. Go ahead. Buy one! We use the cheap olive oil and russet potatoes and the fries are out of this world delicious.

    1. I can count how many times I've watched it start to finish. Intelligent, warm, interesting, and great interiors and exteriors. Perfect.

    1. Sometimes. Other times he drives me nuts. Jean is so patient with him. :<) I always hanker for potatoes. My favorite food, bar none. :<)

  5. I've never heard of Lionel. Worth checking out? But fries, yes, a weakness. Although I've gone to oven fries done Cook's Illustrated way now.

    1. As Time Goes By is just THE most wonderful show. You may read more here:

I own the whole series but you may rent it from Netflix:

I've tried oven fries, and while I love potatoes cooked any way at all, I do love the fried version for my fries. :<)

  6. As Time Goes By still runs on our local PBS station here; Saturdays, 7 pm. Watch it every week, unless I'm not at home.

As to the fries . . . . wished I'd had a Fry Daddy last week when the kids were here and the local tribe was over as well. I made corn fritters and had to use a regular pot. I must admit, the fritters were out of this world, Haven't made them in years.

    1. You could buy one now, and be ready for the next time! We've also made onion rings in ours and they come out great. I'll look into corn fritters. :<)

  7. I love Lionel. He reminds me of my brother in law and so typically English.

    1. I do, and I don't. Sometimes I don't know how they all put up with his grumpiness. :<)

  8. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they made a new series of As Time Goes By. Both Judi D. and Geoffrey P. are still working. I suppose it's a vain hope!

Chips and sweet peas, my cup runneth over Nan!

    1. Yes, I suppose it is.
Not sweet peas, but in the same family - Baptisia australis.

  9. Oh yeah! Do you make your own cream cakes too? I must tell you that Mrs Bales would have had a field day here yesterday....we had 4 inches of rain and the waves in the Channel (er, Canal and River) were high. Mrs B would have been much better at reporting all that than the local TV news pretty faces, who couldn't stop babbling the same stuff about the tropical storm over and over.

    1. No cream cakes or custard tarts. :<) And yes, I would always rather hear Mrs B's pronouncements than weather folks.
