1941 Valentine's Day

From my father to my mother. They had known one another for eleven months and weren't married yet. On the inside he wrote, "Your's Bill" which goes to show that even 68 years ago no one knew where to put those tricky little apostrophes!

  1. What a lovely valentine, Nan. It looks so delicate. Is is paper or fabric?

  2. Paper, Maureen and (you'll love this!) it is from Hallmark! :<)

  3. What a precious thing to own! I just put a comment on the last entry but wanted to come back and tell you that your new header is amazing. I spent ages just gazing at the book titles.

    Hugs ~

  4. I'm happy my mum kept scrapbooks, Heidi. I'm thinking of doing some future blog entries with some of the things she saved. I'm so pleased you like the blog header.

  5. My Mom has some older cards -- most notably, a pile of cards from when I was born and she endured a two month hospital stay, for my sake. :) Even now, I get a lot of enjoyment from looking through them. This Valentine is lovely. In this day of e-cards and digital this and that, I fear the beautiful cards of years ago will fall by the wayside, just like family albums.

  7. Nancy, I wonder about that, too. I'm not a 'keeper' of letters, cards, etc. and my photos are a shambles, so maybe digital isn't all bad. :<) I keep a lot of emails in special folders, and have thousands of photographs in my iPhotos. It is so much easier to come up with just the one I want to show someone. I don't have to think to myself, now what year did that happen.

Kay, thanks. My mother was such an organizer that way. I have several scrapbooks from the Second World War.

  9. Thank you, Robin. I don't know anyone who gets the apostrophes right every time. :<)

  10. Nan, what a beautiful keepsake. I was just reading the other comments, too, and saw that it's from Hallmark :) Wouldn't it be nice if they came out with retro cards like this once again?! And, like Heidi, I loved looking at the titles of the books on your shelf. Hugs, Joanne

  11. Joanne, it would be a neat thing if Hallmark did this. They've certainly come up with a terrific idea with the music cards. I love them.

  12. Thanks, Heather, and there are a lot more in old scrapbooks. I may start posting more about the things my mother saved - some are real historical documents. So often it is the little things we keep that are so interesting later for example, restaurant menus with old prices. She has one where cocktails cost a quarter! 25¢ think of it!!
