Today we read Spot's First Christmas to Hazel Nina. It was published the year her daddy was born, and the year her mummy was the same age as she is now. This is one of a series of the most terrific books for little ones. It offers that treat of reading treats, the little surprise when you lift the flap.
We have all of the Spot books and read them over and over to Margaret and Michael when they were young. Sadly, Mr. Hill died this year at the age of 86, but his books are timeless and I'm sure will be read by coming generations of children.
Hazel Nina took her reading very seriously. As she gets older she'll see the humor and the warmth, but today she really concentrated on what she was doing.
So sweet. Isn't it a wonderful feeling of having that warm loving little body sitting there beside you? FUN.
ReplyDeleteIt is the.best.feeling. I don't think I've ever had so much pure fun in my whole life!
DeleteSo precious. How wonderful to capture these memories in pictures! Merry Christmas to you and the whole family. It will be so full of joy!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, and to you and yours!
DeleteI was very sad to see that Eric Hill had passed away, too. Spot was my Kiddo's favorite when she was young and I've always had a soft spot for him. I'm sure Hazel Nina will enjoy reading Spot's adventures as much as her mom and her uncle did. Great pictures. I hope you have a very very Merry Christmas with your children and grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteThe day we read it, I could sense something clicking in her - she didn't just pull the flaps. She seemed to grasp the fun element of lifting them. She changes every single day. A little too fast for this grammy who already knows how quickly these days fly by.
DeleteI've not known about the "Spot" books before, but they look really just like the kind of book that make very fond memories for the children who have them read to them when they are little, as well as for the people who read them to them.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right!
Delete. . . and now, those precious Christmas memories begin anew with you two little ones, Nan. Adorable photos of Hazel Nina and all her wonder at this book. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteIt's the best thing. Hazel Nina and Campbell Walker were the cutest at Christmas.
DeleteWhat a beautiful, sweet little child your granddaughter is. Always brings a smile to my face.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to see you! Thank you for your words.
DeleteI gave Miss Quinn a Spot book, as well as a little plush "Spot" dog. I love those books! Sweet pictures of Hazel reading with her grandfather.
ReplyDeleteLove her name! And they are such fun books for little ones. There is such love between Sally and Spot.
