Though well known in Britain for other roles, he will always be remembered as the much-loved character Onslow in Keeping Up Appearances to us in the United States.
Oh! I din't realise until I saw your post, how sad, he's the same age as my husband, not old by any stretch. Gone far too soon. He was our favourite too, my husband just said, we first remember him when he played a dustbin man in Coronation Street, and then when he was in Heartbeat, but Onslow was our favourite character.
I'll answer your comments as soon as I possibly can. Please do come back if you've asked a question. Also, you may comment on any post, no matter how old, and I will see it.
Interesting character actor, always dependable, consistent, and funny. He'll be missed!
ReplyDeleteHe was my favorite on the show. Just completely himself.
DeleteThanks for posting this, Nan, and the links to the tributes. Onslow was a great favorite of mine. And very sad the intimely death of Geoffrey Hughes.
ReplyDeleteIt is so sad.
DeleteI loved him as Onslow. Maeve Binchy just died too. Very said indeed.
ReplyDeleteYes.
DeleteFirst Maeve and now "Onslow" too?
ReplyDeleteThis is a sad week... :((((((
I am sad. But very grateful to you for "Keeping Up" with reading the British press for me! Thank you. He was way too young.
ReplyDeleteI so liked his character, and I can't help but feel his real self was equally kindly.

ReplyDeleteJane
I wish we got Coronation Street on dvds over here, and Heartbeat. There are so many British series that just aren't available.
DeleteWell, darn.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard this.
Loved Onslow.
Me, too.
