Old soldiers and old cleomes

 Old soldiers just fade away
Mick Jagger - "Old Habits Die Hard"

This line from Jagger's song was running through my head today as I walked toward the garden and looked at the cleomes. You may think I am obsessed by them, and I suppose I am a bit.  Even on this first day of October, they have a grandeur as they "fade away".  Amazing flowers.

    1. We'll see. I wonder if both years will come back or just this year's. We'll start a couple under the lights just in case none do!

  3. I don't know that flower, but obviously I should. I always think Hydrangeas are the kind of flower that looks pretty even when they are fading away. (Pretty in all its stages.)

    1. We do now have hydrangea. Never could grow them, but this one seems to be okay.

  4. These sunny fall days are just incomparable, don't you think? We appreciate them because they are unexpected and somehow joyful. And flowers that go on blooming as we approach November are the best. For the last two years, I have found some cheerful red flowers called Rio which even I cannot kill. They give me such pleasure!

  6. I've seen those flowers before too but can't remember where. I know it was not in Hawaii.
