Quote du jour/Peter Davison

"You're very fortunate if you're born in a very beautiful area, aren't you?" says Peter Davison to Christopher Timothy in the wonderful Vintage Roads Great and Small, which I watch on Acorn TV.

They are a delightful pair who first met when they played Tristan Farnon and James Herriot in All Creatures Great and Small. They have stayed friends all these years and are traveling companions. They love history and old cars, and we viewers get to see lovely countryside, and get to listen to their conversations, which I'm quite sure are not scripted.

Here's a clip from the start of every show.

I am one of those "fortunate" people. I feel so grateful to live where I do, snow in May or not!

  1. Very apt saying though I do think almost every area has something pretty to look at.

    1. I think so, too. Peter D. was jokingly saying that where he grew up there wasn't much beauty!

  2. I love these two. Their programme is sheer delight... and I love Peter Davison's cheeky grin. It's also wonderful have Monty Don back every Friday night. Also enjoying The Great British Sewing Bee, recommend that if you can find it, Nan.

    1. It sure is!
There is another treat on Fridays on Instagram. Adam Frost does a little live video at his home. His daughter runs the camera and they all walk around talking about plants. There are questions that come in that he tries to answer. It is so much fun.

  4. Did not know about this but I will certainly check it out. I just told my dd Alice about it because she is a fan of All Creatures and of cars. Have you watched The Last Detective?

    1. Yes, I have! I had a hard time at first because of the way he was treated, but I think it got better. I felt badly to hear his friend had died.

  5. Those were some of my favorite books! We named our son Tristan Ian after that character. Our son is 31 now

  6. I've been meaning to watch this! I think RH would enjoy this too. And it is always nice to find someone who still loves where they live, even with snow in May. Not that I can't perfectly understand how my northern gardener friends are just fed up with it by now!

I just discovered the Rosemary & Thyme series playing on YouTube, my way of combining love of mystery with pretty gardens.

  7. I feel especially grateful for where I live! If we have to shelter-in-place, I can't think of a more beautiful area. By the way, I love your new header with the forsythia. Such a beautiful marker of springtime!

  8. I swear all we watch is Acorn and BritBox, but you always have suggestions that are new. Thank you!
