I guess I am going to make the switch, because I have no choice. They will do it for me anyhow, but I'm still nervous about the change. A thoughtful reader told me the other day that my blog header photos were his favorite. I fear they won't show up anymore.
Addendum: I just did it, and can't see that it looks a bit different. Does it to you??
The notice follows:
A better Blogger experience on the web
May 20, 2020
Since 1999, millions of people have expressed themselves on Blogger. From detailed posts about almost every apple variety you could ever imagine to a blog dedicated to the art of blogging itself, the ability to easily share, publish and express oneself on the web is at the core of Blogger’s mission. As the web constantly evolves, we want to ensure anyone using Blogger has an easy and intuitive experience publishing their content to the web.
That’s why we’ve been slowly introducing an improved web experience for Blogger. Give the fresh interface a spin by clicking “Try the New Blogger” in the left-hand navigation pane.
Click the “Try the New Blogger” button to see Blogger’s refreshed look and feel.
In addition to a fresh feel, Blogger is now responsive on the web, making it easier to use on mobile devices. By investing in an improved web platform, it allows the potential for new features in the future.
Blogger’s new responsive design makes it easy to manage your blog on-the-go.

We’ll be moving everyone to the new interface over the coming months. Starting in late June, many Blogger creators will see the new interface become their default, though they can revert to the old interface by clicking “Revert to legacy Blogger” in the left-hand navigation. By late July, creators will no longer be able to revert to the legacy Blogger interface.
We recommend getting ahead of the transition by opting into the experience today. Be sure to let us know what you think about the new design by tapping the Help icon in the top navigation bar. We can’t wait to see how Blogger creators use the latest updates to share their voice with the world.
It looks good to me...On June 1st Wordpress is beginning changes for their blogs of which I am one...I only use my computer for my blog...I have an Iphone but mostly use it as a phone. And instagram. It loses charge so fast if I use it for other things. Best of luck...I love your headers! And your blog.
ReplyDeleteBless your heart for those last sentences! Seems A-OK. Got your message just fine.
DeleteOh my, I haven't seen that notice you share here, another change. I will obviously have to figure out the new blogger, apparently no choice in the matter. Blogging is fun so I will do it.
ReplyDeleteIt is not a big deal, at all. Just click it, and it is fine. Really!
DeleteIt looks unchanged to me. I had the notice about the upcoming change, too, and was not happy - in my experience, most such changes on social media platforms and others have not meant an improvement, but just added loads of stuff I never asked for, with the exception of a few useful functionalities.
ReplyDeleteIn the notice I saw, they said that it was possible to revert to the "legacy version", something I shall keep in mind. On the other hand, if the changes are minor and not too bothersome, I shall go with the flow.
It does seem to be no problem. And in fact, I like the comment moderation better.
DeleteYour blog looks exactly the same to me. As lovely as always! x
ReplyDeleteThank you! There does seem to be NO change in how it looks - just the moderation has been made better.
DeleteI've not been notified Nan, but I guess I will, along the line....... Just going over to cleck that button they say I've got! :o)
ReplyDeleteI wasn't personally notified. There was just a general notice about the change.
DeleteCan I just say how much I love your headers? They are the best.
ReplyDeleteYou are so kind!
DeleteYes, I saw that and thought I would try it. Unfortunately the post I was trying to write had a large gif thing in it and it wouldn't work. It put my sidebar at the bottom of my blog and I couldn't get it back until it dawned on me that it was the gif affecting it and I removed it. An hour and half wasted and in a terrible panic too. I put it back to the original and it does say that will still be an option. But not a good experience for a first try of the new one.
ReplyDeleteNot a good experience at all! I am not sure I know what a "gif" is though I see the word all the time. I thought they were those little dancing things. There really is a lot I don't know! I am so sorry you went through that, and I understand well that "panic" - you just think this is it, my blog is going to disappear.
DeleteI clicked on it yesterday. The only changes I noted were on the prepublication side not on the blog the world sees.
ReplyDeleteYou're having a heat wave up there. 49 days until we move to NH.
Yes, me too. Just the comment moderation which I use, and which is much better, I think.
DeleteI promise nothing but blue skies and moderate temps for you!
Thanks, Nan! I've been concerned and now, maybe I'll go ahead and click it. Maybe. Well-being means being adaptable and able to handle change, but when it comes to technology, I'm not comfortable with change. :)
ReplyDeleteIt all does seem just fine! I like the moderating comments much better. And I agree. Like updates to the phone - there is always something I don't like when they happen.
DeleteOh dear Nan, I am fearful that I won't be able to do things the new way. I struggle with everything as it is.
ReplyDelete(I swear I am on the autism scale.)
Anyway, I have noticed that things are different with blogger lately, so if there are even newer changes, I will be in trouble.
Will have to investigate and take notes.
LIke you, I can't blog on my phone.
And like Kristi, I love your blog! xx
I don't think you will have a bit of trouble, Kay. The only change I saw was for the better - moderating comments.
DeleteI haven't noticed anything new with blogger lately - can you tell me what you've seen?
Okay, I just looked. Mine must be in the new blogging thing anyway. It says "revert to Legacy Blogger" in the corner! Like you say, might as well get used to it. (That is something I have to keep saying these days.) Take care, Nan! I just had some blueberries for breakfast and I thought of you in Maine! xx
ReplyDeleteOh, good! It should be just fine.
DeleteNH not Maine!
I looked at the new interface yesterday and tried it out to see what was different. So far, the only problem I see is that there isn't a way to make my photos larger. I used to be able to click on the size I wanted after uploading them to a draft post, but that has disappeared. There have been several user complaints about this, so I assume/hope Blogger will fix it. Until then, I am sticking with the "Legacy Interface." You can switch back to this old interface after Blogger makes the new version the default. One thing I do like is that if you want to make a correction in the HTML coding, you can see line numbers, which will make that much easier! Change is good, right? :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough you have tried to explain, I will never know what HTML coding is!! I'll have to try the photo thing.
DeleteI just stumbled on how to change the size of the photo. Click on the photo for a drop-down menu and then click on the pencil-looking icon. Another set of choices drops down including one to resize the picture.
DeleteThanks a million for that tip!!!
DeleteI'm so glad you posted on this, Nan. I've been so afraid to change it and didn't realize they will do it anyway. Do you have to do anything that is confusing if you choose it? One comment said you can't make photos larger and that sounds bad.
ReplyDeleteI haven't even switched to the new PicMonkey, too afraid I'll mess it up. Can you tell I'm afraid of change?
Read Sam's comment to Les just above! Good news!
DeleteI don't even know what Pic Monkey is! hahaha
I only switched over a couple of days ago, but so far I'm happy enough with it. I use my phone mostly for checking for new comments and web traffic stats, not at all for preparing new blog posts. I'm hoping they haven't messed up that part of the "old" way of doing things because it's become second nature over the years and familiarity didn't come easy.
ReplyDeleteI do like the new look for checking daily activity, and so far I've found it does everything the old version did.
Thanks for all this. So far, so good for me. Will write a post soon and see how it goes.
DeleteI actually kinda like change - as long as it doesn't mess things up. haha
I hit that change button and I hated the way I had to maneuver to get to my blog to make a post. I do all my blogging on my computer. I might read one now and then on my phone if we are traveling but I like the pictures to be big on my computer so I can see all the details. I changed back to the old one. I don't know if they will make me do it. If so I might disappear. I too always look forward to seeing your header pictures too. Mine disappeared and I don't know where I have that photo on my computer. UGH
ReplyDeleteI'll try to make a post soon, and will get back to you.
DeleteThis won't help now, but in my iPhotos, I have a folder for blog header pictures in case I want to use again, though the only time I ever do is the magazine cover in January about Nan making coffee.
I hate change and use Blogger but, haven't tried the NEW Blogger yet. I also use my laptop (MAC) for posts and comments.
ReplyDeleteHope it works out okay for you.
DeleteYou know, for me it's the whole idea of blogging - conversations, expressing thoughts, showing pictures, telling stories that just doesn't make it on a little phone. I also never shop on my phone. And my photos get transferred to the computer right off unless I want to use one on igram.
I switched over after writing my new post today. I don't see any difference, but I haven't taken the time to look through the settings and other things they mentioned above. I never write a post from anything except my computer and don't even like to comment from my phone or iPad. Since they are going to make it mandatory in July (or something like that), I suspect we all ought to try it out at least.
ReplyDeleteAs I noted above in some comments, I like the moderating much better. Will try and post soon, and see what happens.
DeleteI don't see any change and I do love your photos! I don't want to blog on my phone although I should try on the iPad because it would be easier when traveling (assuming one ever travels again - I have not totally given up on what was supposed to be this month's once-in-a-lifetime trip to Provence with my mother; I hope we can go in the fall or spring).
ReplyDeleteI am not very adept with Blogger and should keep a running list of questions in case I ever encounter an expert. I did try the new format for my last post and didn't have any difficulty except with the labels where it got stuck. I reverted afterwards. As someone noted, it says the legacy version will be available, but I suspect not forever. I also wonder if at some point Blogger will start charging. I had to use Wix for a school project last month and made a bee-you-tiful website on Bletchley Park. I spent the whole weekend wondering if I should move my blog to Wix but it is too much trouble for now, at least. Constance
