Today's picture - wood buddy
Lucy the Labrador is wild about wood! Tom piles it and she very carefully chooses pieces to pull off. She might pull one off the top, or pull one out that is five layers down. Sometimes there are up to ten pieces around the yard. It is just the funniest thing, as you can see from Tom's laughter. How we love this dog!

Wood pile jenga!
ReplyDeletebrilliant comment!
ReplyDeleteToo funny. She must think she is helping by keeping Tom busy. ;)
ReplyDeleteshe's just the best!
DeleteShe's precious.
ReplyDeletethanks!
DeleteLucy's talent must make Tom's wood chores so much more fun!
ReplyDeleteA wood fire--how I miss that. Gas logs are easier but can never give that wonderful scent and coziness.
We'll burn wood as long as we can. There's nothing like it.
DeleteAnnie did this when we visited our friends in Colorado. She and one of their dogs (an Aussie) would pull the wood down, but I think they were trying to get to a chipmunk. It was pretty funny to watch!
ReplyDeleteShe takes it very seriously - she will walk up and down the pile looking for just the right piece. Then she'll chew for a while or just drop it in the yard and get another. It's a good mental activity for a smart dog!
DeleteShe must be seeing a pattern in the pile that we can't see, for her to consider so carefully which piece to pull out. Very interesting, and very funny!
ReplyDeleteNan, I was wondering whether you'll put your header picture "Mmm, I can smell Nan making coffee" up - it would certainly fit the weather now, wouldn't it :-)
Well, we people spend a bit of time when choosing which piece to bring to the stove, so you are probably right! And I was just telling Tom the other day that you like that Nan's coffee blog header! I'll be putting it up in a week or so.
DeleteLovely post Nan...as one wood burner to another is the stone cairn and iron bar a wood store by design or just happy accident? looks clever either way!
Deleteit is a stone pillar, and there is another on the other side. they used to hold up a badly built porch which we removed. the metal is a fence that goes across the terrace and the wood is piled against it.
DeleteGosh it is a fence ...must polish my reading glasses ...lol!
Delete;<)))
DeleteSomeone beat me to what I was going to say ... that I think she's playing Jenga!! Our daughter's big old yellow dog likes to chew fire wood -- it worries me, but she seems quite well!
ReplyDeletei had to look up jenga! you are brilliant, too! dogs chew everything, don't they. our dearly loved, late collie ate stones.
DeleteShe likes to keep busy, that's what it is! What a delightful picture Nan.
ReplyDeletethat's true! there are actually all kinds of toys to keep a dog's mind busy, and lucy has one built right into her life.
