Quote du jour/Gladys Taber

In New England, June ripens into July so easily that it takes a keen eye to notice the change from early summer to full, lavish midseason. The nights are usually still cool enough for a casual fire in the fireplace, but around noon there is a breathless dazzle in the yard and garden, and the afternoon is slow and dreamy.

  1. .... and the first of your day lilies I think! You have caught up now, because mine are still in bud, and small buds at that, except for a lovely white one, which has one stalk with fat buds at the top.

    1. Yes, ma'am! I have a lot of varieties, and these orange ones always come first. Oh, I'd love a white one. Must look into that.

    1. I've felt like starting the wood stove just to get the raw, damp feeling out of the house. Rain every day here since June 22.

  3. Love your header photo. It looks so inviting there. Rain, rain and more rain here. Unbelieveable.

    1. I just told Kara we've had rain every day since June 22. Amazing. We're supposed to have some rain-free ones now, but quite hot. Ah, summer.

  4. Breathless dazzle. Love her pairing of words. And your photo of a table and chairs just waiting for a tea party.

    1. Her prose is often like a poem, I think. Haven't had a tea party yet. The chairs are too wet to sit on. :<)
