As I opened my Susan Branch calendar to April, this delightful poem appeared.
Praise the spells & bless
the charms,
I found April in my arms.
April golden,
April cloudy,
Gracious, cruel,
Tender, rowdy;
April soft in
flowered languor,
April cold with
sudden anger,
Ever changing, ever true -
I love April, I love you.
"Always Marry an April Girl"
Ogden Nash (1902-1971)
What a cosy header picture! Very fitting today, as we are in the middlemof a cold spell with snow and sleet and rain, wet and windy after March was a month of almost unbroken sunshine and no rain worth mentioning.
ReplyDeleteApril is as lovable as any month, but its unreliability I find hard to handle sometimes.
It isn't the least bit reliable! Thank you for coming by when I write so very seldom. It means a lot to me.
DeleteA good poem indeed. Cheers...
ReplyDeleteI am quite fond of Mr Nash!
DeleteI enjoyed this poem - thanks! I wonder if you ever heard Wendall Berry reading his poem titled, I believe, The Peace of Wild Things. You can find it on YouTube and it is so wonderful. Please give it a listen.
ReplyDeleteHappy April, Nan.
Mary
I haven't heard him read it, but it is so wonderful. I will listen. Thank you. I put it up on the blog in 2007!
