From In Chancery, published 1920.
A character is pondering the death of Queen Victoria who lived from 1819 to 1901.
"Never again would a Queen reign so long, or people have a chance to see so much history buried for their money."
She reigned for 63 years and 7 months.
It just shows that we can never know what may happen in the future. Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Diamond Jubilee (60 years) in 2012, and five years later celebrated her Sapphire Jubilee. It is remarkable. And all due to unexpected circumstances. Who knew that Edward VIII would abdicate and George VI would die?
Galsworthy at 65.
Queen Victoria was born in 1819 but didn't begin her reign til the late 1830s...
ReplyDeleteI meant to say lived, and just changed it. Duh! Thanks.
DeleteHave you watched “The Crown?” I have mixed feelings about it, but couldn’t *not* watch!
ReplyDeleteNo, I just didn't want to see a fictionalized version of the royal family.
DeleteThis was very interesting, Nan. It amazes me how long Queen Elizabeth II has reigned. I have been reading Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies about Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn and want to read more about all the kings and queens since (but don't know where to start). Prince Charles is the same age as I am and I remember having a doll I named Elizabeth for the Queen when I was a child.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I actually wanted to ask how many kitties were curled up with the dog, and then I realized I could check the blog header description...so there are two plus Lucy?
That's adorable about your Elizabeth doll!
DeleteAnd yes, two kitties! That's Gemma's head on the left, and Maisy's white chin next to Lucy.
Did you not watch Young Victoria either? I can't remember if you posted about it or not. I loved it and hope there are more seasons of it. Thank you for the lead to following the Royal Family on IG! I have enjoyed seeing their daily activities, and the clothes they wear. I stopped clicking "like" on them because every time I did strange men would follow me!
