Quote du jour/The Old Farmer's Almanac Engagement Calendar

Violent north winds in February herald a fertile year.
from my Old Farmer's Almanac Engagement Calendar

I don't know if they were north winds, but we had really strong winds this past weekend. If the saying is true, it bodes well for the new vegetable and flower gardens!

Tom took a video of the prayer flags up in the woods on Saturday.

  1. I love the sight and sound of the prayer flags out in the woods! Such a wonderful place for them, among the trees and wild things.

    1. Yes! Have you ever seen the movie Unmistaken Child? There is a scene where this young monk goes through the woods and they are full of prayer flags. Also, is a wonderful, wonderful film.

  2. Well, it's not the winds here, but if we have ample rain in late January and February, our wildflowers are gorgeous in late March and April. If not, the flowers are not as nice. We should have a bumper crop of bluebonnets this year in our area. :-)

  3. It's very windy here, too! There's a gale warning for the ocean and a high wind warning here on the coast. The wind is between 25-40 mph with gusts up to 65. Glad I"m not out on the ocean! :)

  4. Nan, I think the comment today will go through! I just signed out of blogger and into it again with new password and now my little picture icon shows up by this box. I was beginning to think I'd never be able to comment anywhere again. Thank you for your help and concern!

Is it still strong winds there today? I looked at my neighbor's flagpole when I raised my bedroom shades this morning and the flag is hanging straight down so no strong winds here.

I remember that my father always had a farmers almanac!

    1. Yay! You did it!
Not windy today, but raw. 5º at 8:30.
I used to buy the Old Farmer's Almanac each year, but now have just the calendar. I never did believe their weather forecasts!

  5. My dad too trusted the Farmer's Almanac. By-the-by, I love the photo of your house. This is a view we haven't seen before and it is very special; so inviting.

    1. This calendar is a little spin-off of it, with sayings and info every day. A lot of fun. Thank you for your nice words about the photo. It was taken from the woods coming down the hill. I'll tell Tom what you said!
