Another friend of Matthew and Margaret's makes great things with paper mache, and we commissioned her to create a cake for their wedding present. She had this terrific idea to put photos on it, so I spent an evening finding all the photos I had from when they first got together in 2007 to the present and then emailing them to her. This is the amazing result
The beautiful flowers were done by a local woman, and the delicious, incredible cake was made by a woman they've known all their lives.

Congrats to them for making it legal. Congrats to you for getting to see the deal sealed. Wonderful that most of the family could get together for this happy occasion. Hip hip...

DeleteJust so very beautiful and touching! Love your new pics of the kiddos on the sidebar. You look so happy, as does everyone!
ReplyDeleteIt was just as wonderful as the pictures show. Pure joy in every minute. Thanks for noticing the grandchildren photos. I try to change them occasionally because they change so fast.
DeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteIt sure was!
DeleteIt looks like a lovely and happy day for all.
ReplyDeleteHappy happy day! Margaret's dress is lovely and she is beautiful as is Hazel! Congratulations to all!
ReplyDeleteYes, she is! And thanks!
DeleteWhat a wonderful event this must have been, Nan - thank you for sharing it, and thanks to Margaret and Matthew for allowing you to show us their pictures.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the happy family!
I think it's great that in your country you can get married anywhere. Germany has very strict rules about wedding venues, and only in recent years have they begun to be a bit kinder to people who wanted to marry somewhere else than a dull registrar's office (here, you still need that first, no matter whether you want a church wedding afterwards or not).
There is so much to look at in each picture, and I find so much there I like: the overall warmth of the wooden walls and radiant smiles; Matthew's snazzy shirt and Hazel's adorable dress; the champagne glasses with the colourful spheres; the wooden mirror frame with the flowers painted on it - I could go on and on :-)
You have been such a fan of their house, right from the beginning. I wish you could come see it. You're right. The wood gives such a warm glow to the house. And that's about as dressed up as Matty gets! He was delighted with his shirt that he ordered from amazon, and I think it's a great color on him. I like the colors of her dress and his shirt together. And Matt's mum bought the dress for Hazel. I love it on her. Thank you for all the details that you noticed. Very interesting about laws about marriage. Geez, here people get married sky diving or on a beach or anywhere. Years ago Matt and Margaret thought of going up on the local tramway to the top of the mountain where they have snowboarded all their lives for the ceremony and then coming down to the lake for the reception, but they decided on this simple family wedding instead. It was perfect.
DeleteIt looks like everyone had a wonderful time and congratulations to the happy couple. I love the idea of a paper mache cake with photos all around it, although the real cake looks pretty tasty. I wish Matt and Margaret all the best.
ReplyDeleteYes, we did, and thank you! The cake was outrageously good!
DeleteLovely, lovely, lovely - the couple, their family, the cake(s), the love that comes through in your photos and words. I especially love the look, mouth opened wide, of Hazel watching her Daddy open wide for his cake.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I thought that was a pretty funny shot of Hazel. And I love her dad's tee shirt.
DeleteWhat a beautiful time to be wed, may they have many happy years together.
ReplyDeleteWe thought so, too. And thank you!
DeleteCongratulations! These are beautiful photos of a beautiful event :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Some of the photos I took, and the others were taken by Matt's sister.
DeleteCongratulations to Margaret and Matthew. A beautiful family!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, they are a beautiful family. There is such love.
DeleteJoy and blessings to all!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!
DeleteOH! I love these photos so much! Nan, you look so very happy!! LOVE the cake...the first one is of paper? That is incredible! And the wedding cake with the flowers, I can't tell you how much I love it! LOVE Hazel's face when her parents are eating the cake, priceless! :-)
ReplyDeleteI was very happy! The real cake and the paper mache cake were made by really good artists at what they do. Both Hazel's birthdays featured their work. Paper mache pug (they have one called Piglet) for one year, and Postman Pat for her second birthday.
DeleteI love this post so much! Beautiful photos of beautiful smiles. I send my very best wishes to Margaret, Matthew and Hazel Nina. May their lives be filled with love and laughter for many years to come. So happy for everyone, dear friend.
