Today's Christmas cd/Christmas with the Puppini Sisters

I bought this a couple years ago, but haven't written about it till now, though I did write about their 2007 album here. You may read more about them on their website. They are excellent singers with a real verve for their material. And they aren't really sisters, though their harmonies are as good as those usually associated with biological siblings. Two members have been there since the beginning while there have been a few incarnations of the third 'sister.' They sing beautifully and bring such fun to music. I guarantee you a smile on your face when listening. The album has the old standards and a couple newer ones like Step Into Christmas by Elton John/Bernie Taupin, and George Michael's Last Christmas (with a wonderful accordion). The Puppini Sisters are retro and oh, so current at the same time. Just great!

  1. Nan- you always find the most amazing stuff. These ladies are very retro. 40's I think. I can imagine them airlifted by the USO onto a carrier in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and singing for the guys-

    2. I went on You Tube and watched them sing "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend". I wanted to see them sing "Walk like an Egyptian" but it was a pay thing and just gave a preview. They remind me a bit of the Roches- that is if the Roches sang in the 1940s.

  2. Well, Nan, from the Puppini Sisters to Rod Stewart, then Bo and the White House at Christmas, I've had a very merry time here this afternoon.

What a tender way to help alleviate the anxiety of elderly patients. I truly enjoyed reading about that - and hope it is employed for folks here.

    1. Blog entries really are just like letters, aren't they? Only more frequent and with the addition of lots of pictures, links, etc. Did you tell me your husband is allergic to dogs? If so, then the kind Bo is doesn't shed. I remember one of the Obama girls was allergic so the Portuguese Water Dog was a good choice.
I like your use of the word 'tender' - just right. I hope the idea is catching on, too.

  3. I really enjoy the Puppini sisters. I have several of their songs I've bought on iTunes. They don't have exactly the same sound, but they remind me of the Andrews Sisters (talk about going back in time). Their duet of Jingle Bells with Michael Buble on his Christmas CD is a lot of fun to listen to, as well.

    1. That's it exactly! Most all the cds I've featured for Christmas listening are, as you say, 'devoid of angst.' I'm not big on angst, especially this time of year. :<)
