Today's Christmas cd/Rod Stewart - Merry Christmas, Baby

Guess what we did today?

And while we put the lights on, we listened to:

A great, great Christmas album! So nice to hear We Three Kings. And Auld Lang Syne with the L in Lang pronounced. And Silent Night with all the verses. And two wonderful rocking songs - Merry Christmas, Baby and Red-Suited Superman. Every song is a winner, and there are some terrific duets. Well worth buying. He even brings Ella Fitzgerald back from the dead to sing What Are You Doing New Year's Eve.

with flash

Wish my camera could capture those lights. They are the old-fashioned, big, ones, only red, green, blue, orange, and white - the lights of my childhood, and my adult life.

  1. It's a beautiful tree. Ours isn't up yet. Soon I hope. It's 80 here. Sorta takes the fun out of the tree stuff. LOL

    1. It's gotten warmer here too, though not in the 80s. :<) No more snow on the ground after rain all night.

  3. Nan, your tree is beautiful! I love the picture without flash. My husband and I love anything Rod Stewart, so I will be on the lookout for that cd. Have a great week!

    1. Yeah, ol' Rod never disappoints. He has a new rock album coming out next year, I think.

    1. What a fun filled day' love the old fashion style lights. Those old bubblers were cool as well.

    2. I LOVE the big bright lights. And Diane you can still get those bubble lights. My last one died this year, but there are more here:

  5. Love your tree! So much fun to cut down your own. I have the Rod Stewart cd waitlisted on interlibrary loan but I think I will just go and buy it. I love the way he does the oldies now (and am digging that blue plaid jacket!).

    1. I've gone back and forth over the years. I do like the fullness of the ones at the local tree farm, but the charm of one from our own land is appealing too.
Oh yes, go buy it! Worth every penny!!

  6. Oh, your Christmas tree has spaces between the branches! Why in the world can't nurserymen grow them that way? I drive my husband crazy each year looking for a tree with spaces. Such a pretty tree in its lights.

    1. Yeah, well those spaces are from growing in the shadow of other fir balsams. :<)

  7. We haven't put up our tree yet - the pine needles would all have dropped before Christmas! Rod Stewart is one of my favourite singers - he was on TV (the X Factor) here last night singing Merry Christmas Baby - I must get his CD.

    1. We have fir balsam not pine. They will last inside a month. A few drop but not many. And of course this was as fresh as could be!!
You'll love the album. He is one of my faves too.

    2. That explains it! We've only had Christmas trees that shed their needles as soon as you bring them into the house, so we've resorted to an artificial tree that is looking rather the worse for wear now and is just not the same as the real thing. :)

    3. There probably aren't as many fir balsams there as here. Wish I could mail you one. Well, I could but by the time it arrived from the tree farm, it might not be in good shape.

  8. So tempted by the Rod Stewart CD!

I much prefer old-style Christmas lights and snap up any I see second hand. The modern LED ones are just too dim and lack the sparkle of the old ones.

    1. Give in to that temptation! It's so worth owning.
So far the old ones are still available. I hope they will be always.

    3. 'production executive brian epstein!' That was wonderful. Can't thank you enough. I really need to add that blog to my list so I remember to visit. 'Stevie' is only a couple months younger than us! Oh, I just loved this. Rod doesn't look or act a whole lot different. We first 'met' him when he was with Jeff Beck. I think if he had stayed, then Beck would have been way more popular than Led Zep. I keep meaning to put 'Drinkin' Again' on the blog. Only in the past few years did I find out it was written by Johnny Mercer! He was doing the standards way back when.
      Thanks again!

  9. You are inspiring me to go outin my woods one more time to see if we've got a tree. I think all we have is hemlock. Lovely tree and I also like the old lights!

  10. I prefer the tree "without flash." Happy time for all--and I watched the making of the Rod Stewart CD on PBS last weekend. Great Christmas music.

  12. A beautiful tree - looks wonderful. I remember those lights - used to dream away many an evening looking up into the lighted tree when I was a child. And still love the tree every year.
One of our PBS stations had the Rod Stewart Merry Christmas,Baby show on last night. The duet with Ella was so good. They were airing the show as a fund-raiser.

  16. I am enjoying this holiday season even if, as one my friends posted on Facebook--last night was a wonderful summer evening in December! Not even in long sleeves in NW Louisiana but loving your Christmas postings!

  17. I love your Christmas tree! Lots of space to hang dangly ornaments, or put popcorn chains or any other kind of chains on! And I love the big lights. They are the lights of my childhood, too. My brothers and sister and I would actually unscrew them while they were plugged in and change the colors around. Some of those babies were hot! Of course, we shouldn't have been doing it and our mother didn't know. Sadly, we don't do a real tree anymore. The only space we can put one in our house is near a heat register and it dries out too much. But I miss the scent and fun of going and cutting one down. My artificial tree is pretty, but it's nothing like the real thing!

    1. Yes, there are lots of spaces. :<))
I still occasionally change a bulb if there are, say, two blues in a row. And yes they are hot! I will take 'real' lightbulbs anyday over the new energy savers, which btw have mercury in them!
How about closing the heat register for a few weeks? Do you have enough others to keep you warm? And then you could just water it more often. I think you can do this!

  18. Nan, so beautiful.
How wonderful to be able to cut down your own tree.
This will be the first year that I will not put up a tree.
Family only here on Christmas Eve.
    Everything is packed away
and it is just to difficult for me to do it this year.
    I have such wonderful memories
and can smell the scent of your tree
all the way to my cottage by the woods in Tennessee.
    Best to you
    dear friend...

    1. What if you just had someone cut a little tree for you, and not even decorate it - just to have a real tree in the house??
