Death By Chocolate Cookies

I've had this recipe for ages, and decided to finally make these cookies.


Instead of Baker's chocolate, I used


Preheat oven to 350ยบ F.

Melt half a 12-ounce package of chocolate chips. Set aside the other half.
Stir until melted and smooth.


Stir in:

3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup softened butter
2 slightly beaten eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

Add and stir well:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder

Then stir in the half package of chocolate chips.

Drop by 1/4 cupfuls onto ungreased baking sheet.

Bake 12-13 minutes or until cookies are puffed and feel set to the touch.
Cool on cookie sheet 1 minute and then transfer to cooling rack.

The recipe said it makes 1 1/2 dozen. Mine made 11 cookies. Perfect to split with
our daughter and her family.

They were some of the best cookies I've ever had. Really. They are a little bit like brownies in cookie form!

  1. That sounds like a great recipe! I wonder why the number of cookies is so often different from the yield predicted by the recipe. Yesterday I baked 15 cookies from an. 8-cookie recipe.

  2. I almost always get fewer cookies than the recipe says. I too use Guittard chocolate and cocoa powder.

  4. Chocolate cookies, sounds really good. Since it uses so little flour, I think I could use a mixture of rice flour and cornstarch and make them gluten free! :-) Thanks for the recipe!!

  5. They sound really good- too bad you only got 11 especially when you were sharing them- but you did say they were some of the best- so it was worth it.I love the flowers in your banner.

  7. Nan, these sound so good. And perfect for me. One bowl, makes a small amount of cookies, and chocolate with chocolate chips.

  10. They look good! If this recipe is from an old package, Baker's Chocolate used to come in a larger sized package, so maybe that's the discrepancy in the amount of batter? They used to be 1 oz. squares and there would be 8 in a box, I thought.

    1. Yeah, it says 2 packages, 16 squares. Anyhow, this worked out great!

  12. Naturally I'm craving chocolate cookies now. I do love the Guittard products but sometimes our local stores don't carry them. It's been ages since I've made cookies of any kind. I miss the days at our old house when our son lived next door and I had two little grandsons coming down the hill to visit every day. It was worth it to make cookies then!

    1. I realized that I don't make cookies enough. I can always freeze them. And in the winter, I always mean to give some to the plow driver who often shows up two or three times a day. So if I have some in the freezer, that will work out great.

  13. Indeed the cookies look good, but I must comment on the header ... I am enchanted with this section of your yard. What a lovely spot and the hens are simply great. Thank you for keeping us up-to-date with the seasons on the Hill Farm.

    1. For several years, we'd have a dozen or so strolling but this year just the two seem to come out of the pasture and explore a bit. Thank you for your kind, kind words. I will try and post more pictures. It's a funny time just now.
