These two quotes are from this year's Susan Branch calendar - A Year in the English Countryside. The Kipling is on the cover, and the Eliot on the January page.
Nan, there was a time I used to look out for annual diaries and calendars with quotes by writers, philosophers etc. Now I hardly see those at the start of the new year.

I love the Kipling quote. That's the way I felt every time I hit the road most anywhere in the U.K. Everywhere I looked, it seemed, I found something that rekindled a literary memory or trivia answer of one sort or another. Amazing country to explore.
This is a wonderful calendar, as most all of her work is wonderful, filled with wonder. Or things which make us experience wonder. And such great quotes. I may have to get this calendar for somewhere. My younger daughter bought me a Magyar Varosok (Hungarian Cities) when she and Sofia were in Budapest in December....That is hanging in my kitchen.
Kipling's idea of a car in the English countryside must be from over a century ago -- but it's still a lot of fun to see the little villages with the pubs or tea shops and the small churches with their graveyards and steeples. I've had wonderful fun doing that.
It's weird to be homesick for someplace I've never been but I always am. Thank goodness for books and movies! Everything Susan does is touched with magic!

So strange. The first time I commented I looked on amazon for a copy of this calendar and the best I could find was 49.95. I decided it was too much. Next day I looked again and found a copy for 19.95 but again decided it was too much. Last night I found, at amazon, a copy for 7.95. It's ordered! I know I will love it.
