Mary Oliver on the radio!

I turned on the radio this morning, and there was an interview with Mary Oliver! You may listen or read it here. Her new book is out, and my copy is on its way from Barnes & Noble.

  6. Thanks for this - wonderful and inspiring. She is the real deal, isn't she?
I don't know if you heard this morning's review of Michael Sim's book about E.B.White and Charlotte's Web, but it is worth it to go into the NPR website if you haven't. Apparently Mr.White did an audio book on Charlotte and it took 17 takes for him to get through the ending where Charlotte dies as he breaks up over and over. Another large soul.
    Thanks again for the post,
    Mary

    1. I love that 'real deal.' Yes!
I didn't hear it, but will go find it on the site. As it happens, I have the book! Haven't read it yet, but it looks wonderful. I love EB White. And I love what you wrote about him 'large soul.' Isn't that just perfect.

    2. Thank you so much for telling me about the piece on White. I just listened, with tears in my own eyes. Oh, the best book ever. I wrote about it once here, if you want to read it. It was actually audio of him reading it.

    3. Im glad you enjoyed it - very moving, isn't it? I have to read both of these books now- the Mary Oliver and the one on E.B.White. Probably will end up buying them as there are just some books that have to live on your own bookshelves. And I enjoyed the post on the barn- thanks so much! I think I have to start back on your blog archives- lots of treasure there!

I don't know about 'treasure' but I have a good time writing my 'letters.' :<)

  7. Trying to decide which I like better, your fall photos or your spring/summer ones. They are all delightful.

  8. Thank you for posting this, Nan. It was wonderful to hear her reading the poem as well as her thoughts on words. Tomorrow is library day for me; and on my way home, I might just *have to* go by the local bookstore to get a copy of A Thousand Mornings.

    1. There's a cd of her recording her work, and I bought it, but had such a hard time listening because the arranger or editor or whoever didn't leave enough space-empty space-between poems, and so they all kind of ran together. I gave it away. I just couldn't listen. Would so love to see her in person. Maybe she'll come somewhere between us and we can go together!

  9. I don't know if you noticed, but I started reading this during last Saturday's Read-a-Thon. I have several poems marked for future posts. I read some to Rod and he says she reminds him of Ann Standford (not to be confused with Anne Sexton). I think you'll enjoy this new collection, Nan. It's very good!

    1. No, I haven't had a chance to read your posting yet. I hadn't heard of AS so, of course, looked her up. Found a poem I might like to put up here sometime. Please thank Rod for introducing me to her. Will read more.

    2. I will. She was one of Rod's English professors when he was at Cal State Northridge. He has two of her books, one of which she signed for him.
