Today's poem by Oliver Herford

I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.

'We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,'
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.

Oliver Herford
(1863 - 1935)

  1. A fine reminder. I think we are delving into the darkest week of the year just now, aren't we?

  3. It doesn't seem so dark with the moon shining so bright tonight.

Love the poem. It would seem promising to hear a bird sing in December.

  4. Thank you all, and isn't that the truth about the moon! The birds at our feeders are all singing away this morning.

  5. Lovely poem. We both are thinking about birds today.

How fortunate you are to have all that wonderful snow. Edward is quite envious!
