We always like to listen to audio books when we're on long car journeys. It was very odd hearing my own first novel read aloud and I'm looking forward to hearing the latest one, as the audio rights have just been sold. Having someone else read your words somehow distances you and gives you a fresh insight into your own story!
ReplyDeleteGreat list - I see a few that I had not heard about and have added them to my list. Thanks
ReplyDeleteAnother try....
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about number 8 - picture books as audio books, how does that work - are the pictures included?
Personally I don't like to listen to books but I have read some of the books on your list and some of them are favorite books; like Ruth Sawyers books. There is a sequel to Roller Skates, which I didn't find quite as good as the first book. Did you know that Ruth Sawyers daughter married Robert McCloskey - another favorite?
Charlotte's Web is another lovely book even if I like E. B. White's essays even better.
Margaretha
Nicola, we used to when the kids were little, especially on our trip to Britain many years ago. I bought Nesbitt and Blyton books and we all had the best, best time!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Juliann.
Margaretha, it worked! I own the Frances books, and had already read them so those pictures were in my head, but honestly, I loved the tales so much it didn't matter that there were no 'visuals' for me to look at. I am a huge fan of audiobooks, and to tell the truth, like them even better than print reading except for the fact that so very few that I love are on audio. I liked Roller Skates, but it was quite a bit darker than I expected with the murder. I did know about her daughter, and yes, I do love McCloskey. I've thought of doing a 'book report' on Blueberries for Sal, my most favorite. I like White's essays too!
