When we stayed with my late sister-in-law I got to experience the French way of life just a little when she took me to visit neighbours or went shopping and so on. Such nice people and I enjoyed practising my wonky French. What a pity governments can't get on with each other as well as private citizens.

Making ratatouille from our garden produce is a serious pastime for me in late summer. I fill the freezer with it and we have it with steak or fish, pork chops, make soup from it, sauce for meatballs, its uses are endless. I definitely think you need to read book two! Funny but this is the way I've learnt to eat my meals, a smaller portion and take my time, I have real problems if I eat even a tiny bit too much. In this way I've managed to lose about 40lbs. What you say about not wanting to define people only through their jobs reminds me of a class mate I shared a room with at Librarian School: whenever she had a new boyfriend (and she had a new one every few months), the first thing she would tell me about him was the car he drove. And I always asked her, "But what is he like?" I wasn't interested in the car, but it obviously was important to her, because the cars got bigger and more expensive with each boyfriend.Librarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704656564078750607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6049626897935912366.post-45297904488721935942012-06-11T23:00:34.246-04:002012-06-11T23:00:34.246-04:00I need to get a copy of this book. I'm fascinated by the way they all walk, run, cycle or skate alongside the Seine on Sunday mornings - the road is closed off for them, and groups of friends and families all go out together, it seems to be a very social thing. And they don't seem to go in for junk food and snack eating like we do in England. You don't see them eating sweets and crisps on the metro or in the street, and they seem to care much more about the quality of their food: shops (even supermarkets) are stacked with beautiful fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, fish, meats etc.Christine Hardinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09814026435889782750noreply@blogger.com
