Quote du jour - Shaun Bythell

I've just finished Shaun Bythell's second book in his Diary of a Bookseller series, and I loved it so  much!

Toward the end, the internet was down because of a storm and he started reading a book.

"This is more like the old days, before the tyranny of the Internet, and it was an enormous pleasure to spend the entire day reading, with a few interruptions."

  1. I can agree with that! Will look for that book.

    1. I loved both of the ones I've read, and want to read the others. Pure delight, and different from any I've read.

  2. That's very true. It almost seems like a vacation when I lose connection with the internet and/or phone for a few hours straight. We have all become slaves to our digital devices.

  3. Although I probably am on the internet more than I should be, I don't have any trouble ignoring it to read a book. Not attached at the hip to my phone either, don't even like it very much if I'm honest. LOL!

How are you, Nan? Love the photo of your woodpile. Just coming to the end of a heatwave here. We had some lovely rain in the night, so nice to lie awake listening to it pattering on the roof. Our job this week is to harvest some of our huge crop of sweetcorn. The squash are up in the same bed and have rambled all around the sweetcorn with a few self-set tomatoes and nasturtiums. Bit of a jungle but I like it!

    1. I am not fond of my phone. I do nothing on it except texting, and not much of that. And all our photographs from decades are there - 79,000!!!
How do you save the corn? I envy you! I would so love to see your garden. And I love that jungle-y look, too!

  4. Thank you Nan! This is a new author for me -- haven't even heard of him and your recommendations have never steered me wrong. Off to check the library and amazon!
