Quote du jour/Paul Simon

I've always loved the entire song "April Come She Will", and I thought I'd use the first part as a quote du jour.

April come she will
When streams are ripe and swelled with rain

This is sure the way it is around here. And in snow country it is the melting snow that swells those streams and rivers.

I just played the Sounds of Silence album the other day. It is just excellent. You may listen to the song here:

  1. Paul Simon is a GENIUS songwriter! And Nan, do you know the song "American Tune"? I'm sure you do! I was thrilled to hear it during a church service, the hymn "Sacred Head, Sore Wounded". The melody of the hymn itself is based on a melody from Bach! I always loved the song but I also found it very moving when Paul Simon performed it after 9/11. Songwriters are very special to me!

  2. Must ask Pandora to play some Simon and Garfunkle tunes.
It's a very spring like day down here in Sullivan County NH. Should bring out a bit of bud coloring in the trees.

    1. It is a beautiful time of year. Every single day there is something new that has appeared.

  3. We could use a little (or a lot) of rain down here. Our streams are not full. Hopefully, we'll get some before long. I will say that we have moved to a more arid part of Texas for sure. Love your header picture!

    1. It has been interesting to me to hear how different your new home is from Austin. Hope you do get rain.

  4. Our March was way too dry, but thankfully, April has begun giving us some of that - could be up to the point of flooding in some areas (not close to where I live).
Admittedly, I have never listened to an entire album of Paul Simon, with or without Garfunkel. My Dad loved their music back in the day, and for a while during my childhood, "Bright Eyes" ranked highly with my favourites.

    1. I had never heard the song so I looked it up. It seems to have been much more popular in Europe than here. Very pretty song.
I find the S & G albums as fresh and powerful today as when they first came out.

  5. Nan, I had to stop and play the album while I'm writing this. Will play it for RH tonight during supper. It was one of our favorites as young marrieds when it came out. You have had some tremendously deep snowfalls so I should have guessed that the melt would make for soggy ground where you are. Good for summer though, I guess?

    1. I love it that you did this!! I played it the other day for the first time in years, and was wowed all over again with the brilliance of the words and music.
Any sogginess dries up quickly in the spring sunshine.
