Winterwatch 2022
These words mean so much to me because they are an expression of what I feel. The virus goes on, and I still don't go out much. My window is indeed my window to the world, and through it I see such wonders. Pictures are from the past few months.
The first partridge which has ever come into the yard, and she (Tom calls her "Miss Partridge") isn't a bit shy. I put this on instagram and called it, "all creatures great and small".
The wild turkeys on their way to the stream for a drink of water before they fly up to their roosts for the night.
They are also not shy. They come up on the terrace, and up the kitchen steps.
Tractor Supply is happy to see Tom walk through the door.
Beautiful photos, Nan. Still lots of snow around in your neck of the woods? We haven't had any this year, so far. In fact we have bulbs up in the garden although none in flower yet. We haven't been out much either, in fact we've just come out of ten days isolating because we spent the day with our daughter and the next day she tested positive for Covid. Same thing has happened to The Queen so we're in good company!

It seems to be almost "normally" common now.
Yes, our eldest is fine, thanks. She had hardly any symptoms and didn't pass it on to her husband or us, which I was astonished by to be honest. I know we're all triple jabbed but even so. She's back at work now but Covid is rife amongst the children at her school.
DeleteA book rec! I've just finished The Lark by E. Nesbit. It's one of the Dean Street Press books and I absolutely loved it.

That is quite a lot of snow! Lovely to be so in the middle of nature that you can observe wildlife up close without even leaving the house.
ReplyDeleteYes, there seems to be no end of the virus. I am still very cautious, keeping myself safe so that I can see my parents without risking their lives.

DeleteAll that lovely lovely snow that shows up the wildlife so clearly! But the words about wildlife, I can see why you put them here, you LIVE those words and I think I do too. So does RH, which is a blessing, isn't it? To have your mate feel as you do about all the critters who visit. And I really really need the solace, hope, and inspiration. I too stay home except for doctor visits mostly and I worry that I'll never want to leave again when home is so comforting. Even family visits have been put on hold now as our third son and his wife have just come down with the blasted virus like our other two sons did earlier. The first two sons were vaccinated and still very sick but this son and his wife chose not to be so I can't help worrying about them.
ReplyDeleteThe 12 to 20 Canada geese that come up from the pond to visit us have suddenly been reduced to two who we think are our original two gosling orphans from last spring. There was much squabbling among them the last day they left. I'd never heard them so talkative while on the ground. Maybe they've all paired off and gone to future nesting places and our two orphans are too young to consider mates. And deer continue year round to visit us but I envy your partridges and wild turkeys. We haven't had wild turkeys in two years now. But we do have a king-sized skunk with a beautiful white hairdo that visits every night, stealing the cat food that RH puts out for a skittish cat that wanders the neighborhood. Truthfully, I think our kids believe we get a little too carried away caring so much about the wildlife here, especially the geese. Maybe when they're my age they might understand, don't you think?

I do think they will understand better when they aren"t in the busy, busy child-rearing years. We have always fed the birds, starting in an apartment in Boston when only pigeons came.
DeleteI bet "your" geese were doing exactly what you said. I love their sound. I wonder if there is any place you could get info on the turkeys in your state.
I would not be happy with a skunk, at all!!!

I do like this quote. I so agree with it. You seem to have your own entertainment during winter.
ReplyDeleteCold but beautiful! I have some dim-witted rabbits who ignore the carrots I put out for them. Next door there is a family of raccoons living in a tree. I see large footprints after the snow and sometimes think it would be interesting to have a webcam.
ReplyDeleteSpring is coming! Slowly! In the meantime, my primary extravagance is paying for someone to plow my driveway and shovel my sidewalk. It is adding up, this month.
