I am currently watching a New Zealand show on Acorn TV called Nothing Trivial, and I just saw a quote from George Bernard Shaw that I had never heard before.
"A happy family is but an earlier heaven."
Isn't that just the best!

I love your header! Have you read The Christmas Village by Melissa Ann Goodwin? It's a lovely Christmas story which your grandchildren will probably like when they are a little older. A boy finds himself living in a village just like that one but then, how to get home?

DeleteBy the way, very sad but did you know that Nicola Slade, who also comments on that old post, had died? I was so sorry, as I always enjoyed her comments on my blog.
I did not know. I'm very sorry about this. I haven't been in touch with her for many years, but she was always so very kind. She sent me a book once, her first one, but it was just too romancy for me. I greatly preferred her later ones. But I'm really sad about this. Thank you for telling me.

DeleteThat is so true. If you've been brought up in a happy family you can face whatever hits you later in life. But if you have not, you have no stable foundation. I do like that saying and will write it in my journal.

ReplyDeleteThe Shaw quote rings very true these days despite the limitations of 2020. It will be just the three of us for Christmas plus the rest of the family checking in via phone and Zoom. Same as we did for Thanksgiving, but it seems more discouraging and heartbreaking to be doing it for Christmas.
Yes, I agree. I'm not much of a Thanksgiving person. Christmas is the one I love. We'll see one family but not the other. Just need to be cautious these days.

DeleteNan, I love your little village in the header! So beautiful and the lighting is just perfect. Ah Christmas - well, it will be unusual but OK. I'm mostly so happy that our girl will be getting the vaccine next week. I've tried not to worry about her, but she recently had a patient that was positive and was with them her whole labor, delivery, and postpartum stay. She said that nothing was more disturbing than having to test that little one right after he was born. Sigh. Anyway, best wishes and love sent to you and yours!
