And so it is Christmas. As eternally different as it is the same. We come together, drawn to the place that we call home or where we are simply welcomed in. We can be broken, but we still belong. We can be fragile, but are valued all the more. We each have our place, our part to play, our seat at the table, and our purpose. The future will not be unwrapped just yet. We can't know if it holds the things we dream of, and if only for today, that is exactly as it ought to be. For now, the moment holds us in its arms. We are as safe as a child once was, beneath a star and swaddled in a manger. There is no darkness that is of any consequence, and yet not one space that is not filled with love.
That quote is just about perfect for Christmas 2020. Its imagery is rather beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt really is.
DeleteOh I love that program! So happy they were able to pull together this Christmas special!
ReplyDeleteOne of the best things is to hear Vanessa Redgrave's narrative.
Mary
Oh, Vanessa. And the music. They both tug at my heart.
DeleteI just signed up for PBS so I could watch it. Last year we were getting DVDs, but not now. And Netflix doesn't get the episodes for months and months. So, I thought it was worth it. That show is good for my soul.
The moment holds us in its arms - how beautiful is that!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed watching this series when I was in Melbourne last. Seems ages ago (it is) I've not seen the children and grand children for over one year now. It was a bit poignant over Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI'm very sorry it has been so long. These are such sad times for many, many people. Thinking of you.
DeleteNan - Thank you for this post. We are avid Call the Midwife fans. I did not recognize Peter Davison! Thank you for pointing that out. As part of our Covid rituals we have been watching All Creatures Great and Small. All these gifts help a lot
ReplyDeleteI didn't either! - until he spoke, and then I knew. We saw him not too long ago in some road trips with Christopher Timothy. I am looking forward to the new version. I've read awfully good things about it!
DeleteI remember Peter Davison in Dr Who of course. I didn't recognize hime until you pointed it out and of course yes, then I could. This call the midwife was very good. Watched it's a Wonderful Life, only in colour this time for the first time. Although watching it I kept thinking is the USA becoming more like Pottersville than Bedford Falls.
ReplyDeleteIn color?! I don't think I would want to see it that way! I think you are right, but not everywhere.
