Quote du jour/Charles Dudley Warner

Hoe while it is spring, and enjoy the best anticipations.
It is not much matter if things do not turn out well.
Charles Dudley Warner

Aren't these words familiar to all home gardeners? We dream (and "hoe") in the spring. Even if the garden does "not turn out well", by then we are already dreaming of next year's garden.

  1. That sentiment is one that young people could base their entire lives around. Prepare for the future while you can because you will never get these years back. Things may not turn out the way you expect, but your options will be many with the right preparation. I hope my grandchildren figure it out.

  2. That is a great quote! Wish I could call and tell my Dad that one, he was a great gardener, he would have loved it. Here is one of his quotes: "fertilize, fertilize fertilize!"

  4. Every year it's different and I think that's what I love about the whole process. You can *never* predict how things will turn out. Last year for instance we had outdoor tomatos. This has never happened before, the greehouse ones grow nicely, Hubby puts out a few outdoor ones, they get blight, look hideous, and get dug up in the autumn having produced two or three edible fruit. Last year? LOADS! I'm willing to bet it will not happen again this year. Love it.
