Ice delay

It doesn't get much sweeter than being woken up by a granddaughter popping into the bedroom at 7:45 because the school had a two-hour ice delay, and her mum had to go to work. I love these surprise visits. We had such fun, and now the sun is shining and Pop just brought her to school. (Nana's still in her jammies)

  1. This is much better than an alarm clock for sure. Sweet.

  2. It may be an ice delay, but you surely have sunshine in your house!

  3. That's fun for you and for her! I was going to say that it must have been a little early for you, right? Ha! I know that you are the owl and I'm the lark. Isn't it the lark that sings before dawn? Whatever bird it is...LOL

    1. I am def the night owl! But quarter of eight isn't too bad, especially with the reason for waking!

      Thanks about the header pic.
It is indeed getting cold again. It has been a very busy winter weather-wise.

    1. She was ready for school when they called it off! Kids do wear adorable clothes now. Mix and match. Different colors. There were so many rules when I was a kid. No pink for redheads. No brown with black. Unwritten rules, but abided by nonetheless.

  6. What a fun way to get up! I wonder what they do about the missed school time; do they switch the timetable round so that the missed lessons are given at the end of the school day, or do they just disappear?
In all my 13 years of school, I have never experienced an ice delay or snow day. It just does not happen in these parts! But we did sometimes get one or two lessons off earlier on very hot summer days. The rule was that if the thermometer reached a certain temperature by 10:00 in the morning, we'd be off at 11:15. I don't know how families managed where nobody was home to welcome the children; it simply wasn't something you'd think about as a kid.

    1. They add on a day at the end of the year if there is a whole day off. If it is just two hours, it doesn't count as a day off. Very common here.

  8. What a lovely surprise! Reading Kay's comment has me thinking about my sleep patterns and how they've changed since retirement. I used to wake up at 5 and go to sleep by 10. Now I wake up at 7:30 and go to sleep around midnight. I love being able to read late at night now!

    1. You need much less sleep than I do. I sleep 9 hours, and even 10 sometimes. I'm not up as late as I used to be. More like 11 than 1 or 2. haha
